Is anybody on Skype. I have it & use my microphone to talk to my daughters for free online. Beats paying for phone calls, especially international ones. You need to have a broadband connection. It is so good. It would be great if we could have a real chat sometime. All you need to do is download the program & connect to your friend or rellie. They have to OK you of course but that is easy.

I can't use it, since I don't have high speed service available, but I think that I can add that feature to the board, if enough people have skype accounts to justify it. IOW, there would be a "Skype" button in each user's profile that would show up at the bottom of posts, and PMs, etc., similar to the other messaging services buttons.

I don't know much about it, but my understanding is that there are no costs involved, as long as you communicate from one computer to another, (from one Skype account to another), but if you call someone who does not have a Skype account, (a regular phone, IOW), then there are time-dependent and/or per call charges involved.

Yes Shirley, it is a free download. Just type skype into google & it will take you to the website. You don't have to have an inbuilt mike either. You can get one fairly cheaply. I had an old one that I used with 'Dragon Natually Speaking' but it was getting a bit ancient & not too good so I bought a new one last week. It is great. It is made by Logitech & cost about $30 dollars but you can get them even cheaper. Any cost would soon be covered by savings in phone bills anyway, especially if you have family & friends interstate or overseas. Just the chat that I had with Judy & family in New Zealand the other day covered the cost of my new mike. Calls to our other 2 daughters is std & usually can cost $4 or $5 a time if we go over 20 minutes or so even though they are just an hour away from us so it is well worthwhile. This way it cost nothing & you can talk for hours if you want to. Only problem is you cant take it to the loo with you like you can a walk around phone
