Q for MIs

Post by m »

Hey all you with multiple intolerances, do any of you use Kitchen Basic beef broth? It says it's free of glutens and diary and it doesn't appear to have corn in it but who knows. Before I mess up and make a big pot of stew with it, I thought I'd ask around.
thanks,

Not familiar with the brand, but perhaps you type out the ingredient list. So many things have "hidden" gluten.

What a coincidence. I saw the Kitchen Basics Broth at my local Safeway this affternoon. I have been looking for things that are less labor intensive. Their web site does not shed much light.

http://www.kitchenbasics.net/

Maybe their is more contact info on the box. I will have to look again next week since I did not bring any home.

m,

I just looked at it yesterday and didn't buy it because there was something in it that I couldn't have, just can't remember what.

Clicking on my link brought up a very different site with a bar across the top with FAQ and other things. Don't know what my confuser is doing but thier beef and chicken stocks look pretty good to me after a second look. If you have a problem with corn you might best avoid the vegetable and seafood stock in that they contain "natural flavor" from corn. They also contain tomatoes(niteshades) so do be carefull if that might be a problem

Beef Stock

Ingredients: Beef stock, beef flavor (principally from beef extract), vegetable stocks (carrot, leek, tomato, onion, garlic), sea salt, honey, bay, thyme, pepper.
Nutritional facts: Serving size 1 cup (240 ml)
Amount per serving: Calories: 20 from Fat: 0; Sodium 480 mg: Protein 4 g

Chicken stock

Ingredients: Chicken stock, chicken flavor, sea salt, honey, vegetable stocks (carrot, onion, mushroom, celery), bay, thyme, pepper.
Nutritional facts: Serving size 1 cup (240 ml)

Amount per serving: Calories: 20 from Fat: 0; Sodium 480 mg: Protein 3g

Vegetable Stock

Ingredients: Vegetable stocks (onion, celery, carrot, mushroom, red pepper), natural flavor (from corn), tomato paste, sea salt.
Nutritional facts: Serving size 1 cup (240 ml)

Amount per serving: Calories: 20 from Fat: 0; Sodium 330 mg: Protein 0 g

Seafood Stock
Ingredients: Contains 2 or more: (cod, flounder, pollack, herring and/or salmon), vegetable stocks (onion, celery, carrot, mushroom, red pepper), natural flavor (from corn), tomato paste, salt.
Nutritional facts: Serving size 1 cup (240 ml)
Amount per serving: Calories: 10 from Fat: 0; Sodium 420 mg; Protein 3 g; Total Carb. 0 g.

Hope this second look helps

That was it, I didn't trust the natural flavors.

I use the vegetable stock and have had good results with it. It has no flavorings which could be a trigger.

Okay, thanks everyone. Maybe I'll be the guinea pig for the group and try it. I made stew with the chicken stock and had no problems but it wasn't as flavorful as I think it could be.
