Net dating- love and relationships

Post by harvest_table »

Hi friends,

My sister married a man yesterday that she met on match.com. Alanna and I are here in MN with many family members and friends from all over the country. It's overwhelming, but I'm begining to be okay with it all. They met 8 months ago.

Anyone have experiences to share?

Love,
Joanna

Hi Joanna,

I guess since I'm, marrying my jr. high sweetheart next summer I can now admit going through a period of trying Match.com.

I got creeped out, not because of the people, but because two of the people were people I knew! One I actually worked with (although not confirmed, but a guy by the same name and same build who worked in the town I worked in for a very similar firm).

I actually went out a couple times with the other one (not the work one), but it didn't go anywhere. Then I decided it was too weird meeting people I already knew. And then not long later Geoff got back in touch with me after his separation.

I wish them lots of happiness.

Joanna-

My SILs mom swears by internet dating! She is in her early 60's but has been doing it since the beginning (8-10 years?). She is an administrator at a private school, thus meets no men at work - she does not do the "nightlife thing" and wants to meet people in her age range to go to the symphony with etc...She has found some wonderful people for companionship - she dated a college professor for awhile, and had a pretty serious relationship w/a photographer, until he contracted cancer and passed away...I know people have to be careful at first because there are weirdos on the internet - but I know a few people who have met online - they are all quite normal, LOL! Also, as Katy mentioned, the small-town factor could be weird - but my SIL's mom lives in L.A. I believe match.com is one of the more reputable online dating sites.

Wishing them much happiness!

Yes! The more I've looked into this I find many success stories with online dating. It's interesting, for sure.

Also, last weekend we attended a wedding of a male friend who met his bride online and we were seated at a table for the reception dinner with a couple who met online and have been married 7 years.

We are heading home in the morning...long flight but have lot's of great memories from the wedding and this entire trip. My sister and her husband are very happy.

Love,
Joanna

Hi All,

One of my best friends has been internet dating for about 4 years - on eharmony.com. She swears by it. She just ended a 3 year relationship with a wonderful man named Michael she met there. (He travels the world frequently and wanted a marriage where his partner would travel with him; my friend has a very responsible job she is not ready to give up. Very painful for both of them). One thing she really liked about it is that there are stages - you first only email thru the website. Then you decide when you want to give out your home email or phone number.

Also, my friend liked the fact that you could choose not to show your photo. Boy, was Michael surprised the first time he met her! He had just assumed that she was "average" looking, since she had refused to post her photo. In fact, she is a blond "bombshell", so to speak. Extremely pretty and fit. It would have been fun to see his expression!

Love,

Polly

P.S. Congrats and best wishes to the happy couple!
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
