Did My Back In

Post by MaggieRedwings »

Morning All,

Well last Saturday we did not go birding and between doing the great American Clothes Switch for the Fall/Winter season, putting away summer outside and then deciding to scrub the front porch I really did something to my back which I am presuming is a serious muscle or ligament strain. I felt OK on Saturday night and it did not hit me until mid-day on Sunday and since then it has been a horror trying to sit and get around. I spoke with my doctor yesterday and she gave me 2 scripts since nothing I was taking did anything. She gave me 600 mg. of Motrin every 6 hours and 800 mg. of Skelaxin every 6-8 hours. Someone in my office just finished Skelaxin and said it really worked for her after she fell down the steps and sprained both ankles and got a whiplash. I took the first of each last night before bed and must say I still feel the same but it is early in the treatment.

The weird thing is that the pain is moving around and not just staying in one spot and today my butt and upper legs also hurt. I am going to keep a very close eye on it and will talk to the doctor at the end of next week if I do not feel any better. Needless to say, no birding this weekend for me and Frank has declared that I will do NOTHING at all. He did tell me not to do the porch and I just kept doing it. I should have listened to the voice of wisdom.

Here is hoping that the meds do not trigger a flare-up but if so, I am just going to have to go with it since the pain - and I am one who can stand pain - is more unbearable than having my 11 teeth pulled 3 years ago.

Love you all and will try to check in over the weekend if I am allowed to visit my computer. LOL

Love, Maggie

So sorry to hear that you are hurting, Maggie. Let's hope it's just a case of over-doing and not an injury. I think that over-doing happens to us when we're not as young as we used to be! It might take a week to feel better. Maybe you can sit on the [clean] porch and the confusing fall warblers will come to you!

Good luck and take it easy. :nurse:

Maggie, that is no fun at all.

Sounds like you need a weekend of snuggling up with a heating pad and a good book or a bunch of movies. Geoff twinged his back last weekend (right before I had to bring 3 loads of laundry up from the basement...seemed a bit suspicious). He could hardly move enough to get to his chair and I had to take his shoes off for him. The heating pad loosened it up for him though and although he is still taking it easy and trying particularly hard not to twist, he can at least move around.

Rest and keep us posted on how you are doing. I did the heavy doses of ibuprofen after my hysterectomy and did fine gut wise (of course being cooped up in the house, I was extra good about my diet because I didn't have the outside temptations).

I agree - R&R is definitely in order here.

Perhaps the butt & leg soreness is just muscle soreness from the intense activity. Sometimes it takes a while for that to show up with me.

I do hope you will be feeling lots better soon, Maggie.

Hi Maggie,

O dear - you sound really miserable  , and I know you have a high tolerance for pain. Take it very easy this weekend! I'll be thinking of you. Say hi to Frank for me.

Ouch.........

Hope the pain is bearable and you are quick to heal. I think when we do things we don't do on a regular basis, we find sore muscles that we don't know we have. Hopefully that is the case and there is no injury!

Will be thinking of you. Frank's a good guy to MAKE you relax and do nothing!

Love,
Mars

Morning All,

Thanks for all of the positive thoughts and I know this is something a few of you have had to endure so I am definitely not alone. The weekend was nothing but attempted sleep and sitting about, both of which were unbearable. The meds are really not denting this and the pain on the especially the right side seems to be spreading. I am going to call my doc this morning and get an appointment for today or tomorrow and see if this is more serious than I thought. I am trying not to ring alarm bells but I have had back injuries before and this pain just seems most unusual and intense and yes Alice, I do have a high pain tolerance but this is just really unbearable.

Will keep you posted and keep those positive vibes coming.

Love, Maggie
