Question

Post by JJ »

Hi gang....I have a question...have any of you taken more than one Entocort a day? The one pill a day is doing nothing for me...I have D after every meal now.

Hi JJ,

Sorry to hear the one entocort isn't working right now. My GI said to take 9 mg a day and I think that's the usual. My pills are 3mg ...so I take three per day. Maybe you should call your GI to see what dose he/she suggests. I hope things straighten out soon for you.

I took 3 3mg tabs in the AM when I was on Entocort.

I think that is the standard dose.

Jill,

If it is one 3 mg pill you are taking, that is a very low dose. It is certainly fine as a maintenance dose, but it sounds as if you have been having too much inflammation to respond to such a low dose. Maybe you should consider something like Bob did......a very short dose of prednisone with immediate weaning to Entocort. Or if you don't want to take pred. (very understandable), a higher dose of Entocort, weaning to the lower dose once things are in control again. My thinking is that you may need to sock the MC harder initially to get on the road to recovery. IMHO.

Love,

Polly

Hi...thanks all...I was thinking the same thing...I'll check the dosage and then add more if I can. Things are really out of whack. Thanks everybody!

Hi Jill,

According to tests, you can safely take up to 18 mg per day, (for short to medium length periods), so you are a long way from a "maximum" dose. (As already pointed out, the recommeded treatment dose is 9 mg per day, of course).

Tex

Morning Jill---

When I tried *E* it was a 3mg pill--3X-a day--
Took one with each meal---
Yes---the total of 9 mgs. seems to be the starting point--

I started on 3 entocort a day.. the original plan was to cut back slowly to 1.. but have had to stay on three a day.. I take them at different times of the day since the doctor said to take them whatever way seemed to work best. Some folks just take all three in the morning.

I also started Entocort at 9mgs a day and weaned down from that. Sounds like that's a standard starting dose.

In light of a dosing dosage up to 18mgs (interesting), I wouldn't be too concerned about uping your dosage to 9mgs now or even higher. What you will be doing (rather than weaning up to a higher dose) is hitting your system with more of a jolt (like Polly mentioned) which you may find more effective, sooner. Just my thoughts.

Hope you find relief soon Jill- Hang in there, keep us posted and keep the faith!

Keep a watch on your diet Jill. Hopefully, that will help in conjunction with the medication.

It took two weeks or so for the Entocort to work even starting with 3 a day.. but of course everything is different for each person with this disease..
