YES. update on Louie~~~~

After Lou Xplained the Xact things that happened to him,while losing vision, the optomologist definately termed it a TIA!!!!

Xamined eye----and all looks ok----
The OPTO. is getting in touch with GP and there are test that have to be done----carodit doplar---and of course he has been OFF aspirin due to the bleeding from the STONE---but GP---told him to get right back on the aspirin~~~

Tomorrow---stint comes out and then Im sure its to GP--etc.

He is very down and to be honest---maybe something is telling us NOT to travel to AZ.

The first one in 1999 lasted 15 minutes---this was about 5---

Thats about all I can say now----

My heart goes out to you and Lou. TIAs are not fun and to be honest, I am wondering if they are being exhibited in our home right now with Frank. He is not saying much but I am keeping a keen eye on it. Things just are not right and I cannot put a finger on what is wrong. He says they are fine but he would be the last to admit something is going on with him.

AZ will still be there whenever, you need to care for Lou and yourself and Kait too right now.

TIA is short for a transient ischemic attack. It occurs when too little oxygen flows to an area of the body and causes temporary symptoms. It is considered to be a pre-stroke warning and that is why it requires care.

Barb, I'll bet anything it was because Lou was off of the aspirin. I'm sure all will be well back on it. My dad had exactly the same thing (with the eye) and took aspirin for 16 years before he died...... from colon cancer. IOW, you can lead a normal life after a TIA - with treatment, you can avoid stroke. Give Lou a hug from me and tell him not to worry.

Yes, give him a hug, and kudos for telling you right away! Geoff's Dad has had at least 2 strokes (and probably a lot more that he wasn't aware of fully), and when he had the first, he didn't get lunch because it occured around 10 or 11 in the morning, so the second one started while he was getting lunch at McDonalds, so he waited to tell anyone until after he had his lunch! As they say, quick treatment is always the best (for anything!).

Transient ischemic attack. Hmmm. Don't think I'll be able to remember that. Could it be called mini-stroke? I often wonder if the onset of a migraine isn't a mini-stroke--where you get the lights in your eyes and start to feel sick, right as the headache is starting?

Well, I hope Lou doesn't have that. None of us can afford to be losing brain cells!

Yes, a TIA is sometimes referred to as a mini-stroke, however, in the case of a TIA, no permanent damage occurs, because the interruption in the oxygen supply doesn't last long enough to cause permanent effects.

Do prior TIA's show up in a cat scan, say in the back of the head in the area that controls balance for one thing. I guess what I'm asking is, would it have to be a slightly more serious stroke to show up or would a TIA be enough to make it show up.

Just curious, since I've been told I had stroke in that area at some time in my life.
