Now, about losing weight - I saw a post where your goal is to lose weight before your wedding. I am here to tell you that there is no way you CANNOT lose weight on this diet. Right, Joanna?
You are so right on Polly. I'm 5'7" and tipped the scale at 188 at my DX. Today I weigh 135 and have maintained that for a year. I was at my leanest a year ago @ 130 (very physically active that summer) so technically that was a total weight loss of 58lb and it took just a little over a year to lose the weight. Pretty amazing huh?

So, not only have I been able to control my CC symptoms by diet, also experienced an added bonus of consistant and safe weightloss. Initially, I focused on GF (never got into buying gluten free products) for the first 6 months and began losing right off the bat. Then honed in on a more Paleo approach to eating by eventually eliminating dairy, grains, processed foods and such. I think what may have contributed most to my weightloss was no-gluten & no-refined sugars. It's a very healthy diet- I feel great.

Hey Katy Congratualtions! Whens the wedding?
Joanna, that list you shared earler was so helpful to me in thinking about the more unusual foods that we can eat. Have you tried bison? I know you eat other wild game. What is your favorite?
That a pretty inspiring list isn't it? Yes, I've tried bison and like it. My mighty hunter is heading to MN for deer next week. With all the wild game here I think it's crazy for him to make this annual trip and fly meat back but it's a guy thing.

Depending on the success of the hunting & fishing season our freezers are usually stocked with moose, caribou, & venision. I like them all equally but what really turns me on is a juicy big fat rare beef steak! Also have salmon, halibut, trout, clams, duck, grouse, pheasant, rabbit.

Making a moose meatloaf for dinner tonight and feeling blessed that our lifestyle supports my way of eating.

Love,
Joanna

Hi,
I'm not strictly paleo, (it's because of those darn eggwhite cookies) (and brewer's yeast, too, right?) but otherwise I'm close, right? I saw that my library had Cordain's book, so I'll check it out and read up. How could I not? you are all so enthusiastic about it!

Hi Joanna,

Wedding is June 2. I'm still struggling a bit to read enough of the Paleo Diet to get really going on it, but I'm trying to cut back on potato, rice, and eat more veggies.

I keep feeling like I'm getting gluten. Either that or my anxiety symptoms are returning. So I'm struggling a bit, but I haven't got out and bought anything made of wheat flour (read here donuts!) since early September.

Marsha, I'm not perfectly paleo and cheat once in awhile out of need or because I just want to. Isn't it amazing how we feel directly relates to what we eat?

Katy, that means you have 8 months before the wedding to lose any weight you want to! That's plenty of time.

I just posted a link for you cave ladies (in the information on diet room here) to the official Paleo Diet website. Check it out- lot's of good stuff.

Joanna

You know, I really like vegetables and fruit and healthy food. I don't like the idea of empty calories, my kids didn't taste sugar or processed food until they were 6 or 7. I made my own bread and yogurt, and canned things instead of buying sugar packed fruits. We raised our own beef, and always had a freezer full of game.

Weirdo that I am, just because I can't have certain foods, I really miss them at times. So I appreciate latte's about 10 times more than the average person.

I reserved the Cordain book today at the library, and should have it tomorrow.

See you,
Marsha

By the way, your daughter is so cute.

First off, haven't you noticed were all weirdos here Marsha?

I miss certain foods too but only when I see or smell them....like looking a beautiful cheesecake (I'll admit, I cheat once in awhile with non-gluten foods and might just take a tinsy weensy bite) or the wonderful aroma of fresh bread or cookies baking drives me up the wall. It only lasts a short time and then I'm over it.

Secondly, I hope you find the Paleo book helpful. I'm better able to understand the Paleo concept after a couple years of dieting under my belt. There website is pretty good too.

Lastly, thank you. Alanna is a cutie...she just turned 13 though :yikes:
and she frightens me sometimes. Oh, the many joys of motherhood.

Joanna

Hi Oma,

Absolutely! Any wild game is perfect for the paleo (hunter-gatherer) diet. In fact, those who write about the diet say it is the best source of protein because it has lower fat than farm-raised animals. Also, it makes sense in that it is exactly what our ancestors ate. Interesting but not surprising that you felt better. See, you were way ahead of your time and didn't know it! LOL!

Love,

Polly
