Vitamin C and STONES

Post by barbaranoela »

Lou is going for a doplar of the caratics and this is interesting--
He has been taking Vit, C for years----BUT the GP said to STOP cus---Vit. C can CAUSE the re-occurance of stones in a person that apparently builds them up-----

And another Vit. (forget) because it INTERFERs with the working of a MEDS. that is more important to his body!!!!

But they go over the meds. every time we go??? Why NOW???
Wondering if it be from all that he has been thru since by-pass--and another TIA etc.????

Anybody have an input ????

And a good day to all

Isn't it just great when they tell you that a supplement/medicine you have been taking is actually hurting.

I felt like I had dodged a bullet yesterday when I heard on TV that Fosamax (for bone density) has caused some problems. I only took it for a few months in 2004. When I researched how it worked, I stopped taking it. I'm sooooooo glad I did. I have enough problems already with my jaws/teeth.

And, Barbara, it beats me how any doctor you are seeing has to have a list of meds EVERY time you see him/her and still things get overlooked.

Best of luck to Lou.

I took miacalcin nasal spray for about three years and tried fosamax but it made me ill. I stopped everything last year and my bone density actually increased... go figure!

I have had my second tooth pulled.. both upper premolars.. not taking any of the "bone meds" any more.. with my sinus problems I have no intention of going with implants either..can chew fine without those two teeth and sure don't want to lose any more.

Barbara,

Read this article about vitamin C and gall stones. This research seems to state the opposite of what your GP said.
Evidence-based options for primary prevention of cholecystolithiasis include physical activity, slow weight reduction, regular vitamin C supplementation, and moderate coffee consumption. The ongoing genome projects provide the basis for future epidemiological studies of human gallstone (LITH) genes, which might offer new prospects for individual risk assessment and prevention of gallstones.

Based on what I'm reading, vitamin C seems to be a very good thing for all of us.

Here is more than you may ever want to know about vitamin C, but it's interesting reading if you have time.

This site has lot's of links to other very interesting articles in relation to using C & bird flu.

Joanna-

I think Lou has a history of kidney stones, not gall stones - which may explain the inconsistent advice...

Oh, thanks Mary.

I misunderstood Lou's problem.

Regardless, I hope you all will glance at the Vitamin C info.

Love,
Joanna
