How About A Photo Gallery?
Hi All,
As Kathy pointed out a few days ago, there are some very talented individuals in our online family, and one of those talents is photography. For some time now, I've been considering adding a forum to the board, where anyone who wished to do so, could display photos, so that we could all enjoy them.
We already have several ways to display photos in posts, but those soon become difficult to locate, as they fade away into the archives. What I'm proposing is a central location where photo displays can always be easily located. Of course, we would still be able to put photos in posts, any time we wanted, but for groups of photos, albums, or whatever, a specially set asside forum would provide a much better location for photo viewing, in general, so that they could always be easily located, whether they be vacation photos, family photos, pictures of pets, flowers, scenery, backyards, or whatever. This way, the name of the topic could be used to describe the type of images in any given topic.
We could, of course set up a single forum, where everyone could post photos, but I'm considering setting up a whole catagory of forums, where each member who would like to display photos, would have her/his own forum. That way, no one's photo's would get lost in the shuffle, each exhibitor could pick the name they want to call their forum, (or gallery), and I could arrange the permissions, so that each member who had a photo forum, would be a moderator for that forum, so that anytime any editing or other changes needed to be made, they could be easily made by the owner of the photos.
Before setting this up, though, I would like to see some opinions, and some thoughts on the subject. If it doesn't appeal to enough members, there's probably no point in doing it. I'm sure that every member wouldn't be interested in setting up their own photo forum, but hopefully, most members would enjoy viewing the photos in the ones that would be set up. Actually, no one would have to set up their own forums. All an exhibitor would need to do would be to tell me what they want to call their gallery, and I would set it up, (or create it). Of course, Mars and/or Jean can also set up a forum for you, if you ask them. Once it's created, then photos could be added anytime desired, the same way that we add images to posts now, and, of course, descriptions, comments, or whatever, could also be added.
Any thoughts?
Love,
Tex

I like the individual forum idea. Sounds like lots of fun!

Sounds like fun to me too. Have lot's of fun pictures just sitting in my digital camera and would really enjoy seeing everyones elses pics.
Also, like the idea of a personal gallery for those that want one and perhaps just a general gallery for the occasional shutter bug that might want to share a picture only now and then.
Great idea Tex.
Love,
Joanna

Hey Tex - like the idea! I've been wondering, actually, how I can get a photo of myself into my profile. Can anyone explain how to do this? It seems like there's only space for avatars. I like having a picture to go along with people's names. Feels more like real people that way than just simply talking into cyberspace.
Thanks,
Beth

Beth,
There's a place in your profile where you can enter the URL of an avatar stored on a remote server, or, most members just email me an image that I can convert to an avatar, and I'll create an avatar and upload it to the "custom avatar" section of the "avatar gallery" in the bulletin board database. Some members have several avatars in the database that they can select at will, in their profile.
You're right, of course, an avatar conveys a more personal presence, and adds a lot to the comraderie.
I can even take an avatar out of a group picture, if you want, or do touch-ups, or just about anything else you want, if you'll give me an idea of what you want in the final avatar.
You're very welcome,
Tex
P S You can also add images to your signature in your profile, and you can add one-time images to posts by using one of the two image-hosting services available below the posting window, or you can use BBCode or HTML code for images, if you're familiar with that. Explanations of how to use the image hosting services are in the "How To Use Avatars And Include Images In your Posts" forum; http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=14 however, anytime you have any questions, please feel free to ask, and we will do our best to help clarify the situation.

OK, it looks as though this may be a popular item, so I'll start setting it up.
Anyone who wants your own forum, just tell Mars or me what you want to call it, and we'll set it up.
I'll tentatively set up a few for some of you whom I'm pretty sure would like your own forum, but I'll just make up a name for them. Once you tell us what you prefer to call your forum, we'll change the name to whatever you want.
Love,
Tex
