Hi Beth,

Sorry to be so long getting back to you. Back when I first developed sensitivities, Dr. Fine was only testing for gluten, casein, and yeast. I ordered only the gluten test because my celiac blood test done by my GI doc had been normal and yet I was pretty sure I might have gluten problems. At the time I sent in the test, he was offering a free yeast test too, so that's how I found out that I was intolerant to gluten and yeast. I found out the rest of my intolerances by trial and error over many months.

Absolutely, you do not have to pay $$$$ for expensive tests. As Wayne said, most of us here used the trial and error method. Jean has some good info in the Diet Info forum about how to go about an elimination trial.

The reason I mentioned the paleo diet is that most of us with multiple intolerances have found that we tolerate this diet well. Thus, for a newbie, it may be a bit easier to just start with the paleo diet (which allows no grains, dairy, legumes) to promote healing of the GI tract - and then various other individual foods can be added one at a time to see if they are tolerated. In other words, the paleo diet serves as a good "baseline" diet upon which to build.

Love,

Polly
