Emily Update

Post by ronipow »

We just got back from Buffalo, Rochester and Wellsville. Emily had a horrible couple of days. I'm not sure if it was the traveling or the heat.
Most Buffalo homes do not have AC and it was a record high of 92. Most of us southern AC addicted were quite uncomfortable. By the third day she was doing a little better. Made it through the week and never felt so glad to be home.

Thursay we had an appointment with Dr. Donald Counts. He was amazing.
He spent 1 1/2 hours with us going over Emily's profile. He also uses Dr.
Fines tests and is behind his research. He is a Famliy Practioner, and has thirty years experience with accupuncter.
We just ordered another CBC, Lipase(SP) and Analayse, B-12 Count, complete thyroid, H-pylori and the Parasite testing from Great Smokey Diagnostic.
He wants her to continue with the diet. GF, SF, DF YF. He wants us to take the Leap Allergy testing with a grain of salt. He thinks that she may be stressing out so much about the food that it is making her symptomes worse. He also recommended bio-feed back to help with her gastrointestinal stress.

He is also excited that we are working with Dr. Lubin (GI), he feels like he is one of the best in Austin.

I think we finally found someone who is really willing to listen, and to help us out.

It so strange that Emily was doing horrible on our trip, and as soon as we
got home she started to really perk up. She, was also trying to resolve a serious issue with her boyfriend that I think contributed to her stress and depression. Now that they worked it out she is doing better. I think the bio feed back may really help.

I think her body twitching is a result of shallow breathing when her stomach hurts and her muscels are being robbed of oxygen and her abdomine starts to twitch. She is also, getting very light headed when she stands up. The Dr. wants her to eat protein with every meal.

He also said her bruising on her stomach is being caused by her heating pad that she sleeps with at night.

Thats all for now.

Roni

I'll keep you up to date when the results come back in.

Wow, sounds like you hit upon a good doctor for Emily. Does she like him? I sure hope all the tests will shed some light on her situation.

I'll bet ya'll WERE very uncomfortable up there with no AC. I would have been too!!!

Glad Emily is doing better since arriving home.

Roni,

Yup, it wasn't just you "southern AC adicted" folks who were uncomfortable last week! Us northernerns were also quite uncomfortable, and I do NOT handle heat and humidity well, which is what we have definately been experiencing. In fact, I posted last week that I felt I was having trouble staying hydrated because of it. Seems several of us experience that.

Sounds like you found a great doctor. That alone may be enough to perk Emily up...having someone who is willing to listen and help her be well.

Hi Roni,

I agree. With both Dr. Counts, and Dr. Lubin in Emily's corner, you should have about the best medical help you could hope to find, in this part of the world.

I also agree with Dr. Counts on the Leap Allergy testing program. I really don't see how a rapid-fire testing program such as that, could provide any worthwhile information for food intoleralerances. I can see how it might work for classic allergic reactions, but I personally feel that it's useless for trying to track down food intolerances, (as I've pointed out before).

It's good to hear that Emily's feeling better, again.

Hi roni,

I am glad to hear your report about the doctors and their cooperation and insight. It is very welcome news. I applaud his agreement to keep following the gf, df etc diet that Emily is on. I think the protein is a good idea too. I will look forward to hear the results of the parasite testing from Smokey Labs - how long do you have to wait before you know anything?

Love,

I'm glad Emily is feeling better! You must be doing better now that she is too!

The doctor appointment sounds very promising!

Hi, Roni,

We don't know each other yet, but I am glad to hear that Emily is doing better. I may come to where you are and check out your doctors for myself.

The heat thing gets to me, too. Last night I had my daughter, SIL, and grandson over for Father's Day dinner and it got hot without our really realizing it. It had been fairly cool the past few days. Sure enough, after eating dinner, I had to run to the pot.

And, of course, stress is a killer. I meditate a lot and that really helps. Not only with the gut, but with the mind. Which I need.

Lots of love,

Sally

Hi Roni,

Thats great about the Dr. I would like to know about the parasite
test from Great Smokies Lab also. Ihaven't found a doc to order them for me yet.

Dr. Counts called while we were in his office to get the parisite kit from
Great Smokey Diagnostic Labs. The kit should be here this week. I'll need to pick it up and follow the directions. He is ordering it for us, so that the charge will be less. still pretty pricey. It is 360. dollors. I will try and summit it to my insurance, but I bet they won't cover it. At this point I just want the piece of mind, regardless of cost. I'm going to look for full time emplyment when the kids go back to school. Emily's alternative health care is costing a fortune.

Hi Roni. IMHO you definitely are doing the right thing getting Emily tested through Great Smokey Diagnostic Labs. If nothing else you will know that she has been tested by THE BEST. It's pretty scary that most labs, even good ones, miss parasites (see Links page to Dr. Teitelbaum's article on parasite testing). Good luck and keep us posted!
