Shirley,

On the Virgil's Root Beer - I couldn't find it locally, so I asked my local health food store to order three cases for me, (I figured that would be enough to be worth their while, but they probably would have been happy with a smaller order, also). Anyway, they were happy to do it, and now they stock it regularly. Also, anytime I order that much, they always give me a 10% discount on everything I buy that day, which certainly helps.

Love,
Tex

Virgils Root Beer - I found a place in Melbourne, Fl. that sells it and when I'm in Merbourne I stop by and buy some. It's called "Wild Oats Natural Marketplace".
Here is the link to their "store finder" but I'm afraid neither one of you live in states that have a store.

Polly, I really don't have any idea why my BP dropped like it did. I haven't cut down on salt at all. It could be the stress level, I suppose but I certainly couldn't put my finger there and say "that's it!!" I haven't been on BP meds at all in over a year now. When I see the Dr. it's always OK. It's OK when I check it at home (which I rarely do these days). I had an apt about a week or so ago and was pretty stressed due to being late (due to not being able to find the place) and when they took my BP it was quite high but that's the only time that has happened in months (that I know about).

Yes, I'm still going to Curves on a regular basis. 3-5 times a week. I love it.

From Beef O'Brady's website.....
Watterson
Named after one of our first customers. You’ll order this one again. Premium roast beef and Swiss cheese on grilled rye with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion.

and.......you can get it with seasoned curly fries and you can request ranch dressing in which to dip the fries.

Would you believe that just thinking about that right now is making me nauseous!!!! That's wonderful!!!! However, if I were hungry, it might be a different story.

I'm having Sticky Crockpot Chicken today. I left it in the fridge longer than necessary and put it in the crockpot just before I went to bed last night. It smells really good.

Hi Shirley!

You know, the improvement in your BP just might be related to less stress. I say that because the fact that it was up when you were late for the apt. means that it IS quite sensitive to added stress. Whatever the reason, though, it's wonderful that it is no longer a problem.

Good for you re Curves. What are you working on when you go there? I know Karen would be proud of you if she could see this!

YUM that sandwich sounds good! But, you might still be able to enjoy it with a little modification! Since you are eating some cheese, you could have the sandwich without the bread. Or you could take a romaine leaf along with you to wrap it in. I know, I know, it's just not the same without that rye! Sigh.

I hope the chicken turns out OK. Don't forget to use the juices for a pot of soup (that is, if you are not too burned out on soups!). LOL!

Love,

Polly

Hi Shirley,

For a change with your soups...try roasting an entire acorn squash in the oven..cut in half first....when it's soft ..let cool and scoop out flesh and put in blender. Add it to any soup and it turns the broth into what tastes like a cream based soup. Potatoes or sweet potatoes work well too. I just love the creamy texture.

Cristi

Polly,
I didn't see your post before. Just found it.

At Curves, you just go around the "circle" 3 times. They have different machines which work different parts of the body and in between each machine there is a platform where you can do any type of exercise you like. Walk in place or make it more intensive if you desire, add arm movements - whatever. It's strength training + aerobic if you work it hard enough. I really like it. I haven't gotten weighed and measured since the beginning. I am overdue. I know I haven't really lost anything but I'm hoping for some "tightening" which would make my measurements smaller. HaHa. In other words, I'll take whatever I can get. Also, I could have lost some fat and gained some muscle which would keep my weight from dropping in the beginning.

I just might try taking a ramaine leaf along to Beef O'Brady's one of these days. Be a good test. If I give up the rye bread, I'll probably treat myself to the seasoned fries & ranch dressing though.

I believe I posted about the chicken on a different board so I won't say any more except I'll definitely make it again!!!

Cristi,
Thanks for the tip about the squash/potatoes. It sounds delish. I'll definitely try that too. I like creamy soups.

How cool you joined Curves- isn't it a nice workout?

Lannie and I have been members for a year and really enjoy working out together. Our membership just came up for renewal and we chose not to renew because she's doing all kinds of after school activities this year and I know I won't be motivated to go without her. Also, I'm working more now so have less free time.

How ya doin on the diet front? That squash soup sounds yummy...

Well, I keep missing posts for some reason. Must be in too much of a hurry.

Polly, I didn't do too badly but my Sister (Vickie) was here this weekend and I kinda blew it, but hopefully back on track today. I made the crockpot chicken again and she and Mom loved it. Vickie wants the recipe. I have to email it to her.

I am making soup today using the juices from the chicken among other things.

I haven't tried the creamy soups yet but I will.

I bought some corn tortillas today, thanks to Tex and Bob.

Joanna,
I do love Curves. I haven't gone lately because my knee is acting up and I don't want to aggrevate it more than I have to. I hope to get back to Curves soon because it does make a difference.

Shirley,

For Pete's sake, don't tell Polly that Bob and I put you up to buying corn tortillas - they're not a paleo food. Hahahahahahaha.

Just kidding. Actually, I don't think that corn's all that bad. A lot of ancient native civilizations have used as a staple in their diets for many thousands of years. It's just a shame that it wasn't developed long before the neolithic period, so that our digestive systems could have evolved with it.

I have to admit that now that I can eat corn again, I keep corn tortillas on hand at all times, just in case I need to make a wrap-around of some sort.

Love,
Tex

 I'm so far from a true Paleo diet at the moment that I didn't think it mattered at all. I suspect Polly knows that too.

Well, not much to update about. How about a "downdate"??

I stirred up my knee problem while working outside so didn't dare go to Curves for at least a couple of weeks. Then it seemed I was so busy getting ready for Bill to arrive that I kept putting it off.....result is that I haven't been back yet. I had only joined for 3 months and my time ends the 25th. I'll probably let it lapse and rejoin in the spring when it gets too hot to walk here. I checked and I don't have to pay the "join up" fee again if I do it that way. NOW, hopefully I WILL get out there and walk on a regular basis.

I have been requested to make pies again for Thanksgiving dinner and there isn't much chance that I'll not participate in at least some enjoyment of them, however, I will restrict myself to the filling and leave the crust. LOL

Sooooooo, here I am - failing again. Don't know why you all don't just give up on me.

Hi Shirley!

Of course we won't give up on you! You are doing what you can at your own pace. There's a terrific saying that I believe is from a country song: "It took me a long time to get here, but I'm right on time".

Sorry to hear about your knee. Have you found time to walk outside? We have had a very mild fall here - it will be 65 degrees today.

How did Thanksgiving go?

Love,

Polly

Hi Shirley,

Hey, we never give up on our friends!

I hear you on the knee problem - I have one that always seems to be going out of it's way just to get hurt.

We all have to do whatever works best for us.

Love,
Tex
