Should these search boxes stay or go?

I think they're useful, and I'd like to see them stay.

Dictionary and Thesaurus Search Boxes

Post by tex »

Hi All,

I thought we would try these Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus search boxes to see if anyone finds them handy. I'd like your opinion on whether you consider them to be useful, or just a waste of good space. If they're not worth the space they take up, we'll get rid of them.

Thanks.

Tex

My favorite dictionary is www.onelook.com because it will pull up definitions from a variety of sources (including Merriam-Webster).

I see the convenience of having your link right on the page - perhaps you could insert it lower on the page, which would handle the "real estate" issue of valuable page space.

Hi Bob,

OK, I inserted a OneLook search box at the bottom of the page, (there's really no practical place to put it, other than near the top or bottom).

I'm afraid it may be overlooked by most members, way down there, but you're right, the real estate is much cheaper down there. You're also right about the OneLook approach offering a lot of options for selecting definitions.

Thanks,
Tex

Great! The "One Look" site often pulls up specialized dictionaries for medical, tech, and legal terms. It will be a nice asset to your site.

I think I like the "OneLook" link better than the one at the top of the page. I've never tried either one, I just like it less "in your face".

I love it that you are always looking for ways to improve this site and make it more user friendly and just to improve it in any way you can. You are a marvelous administrator.
