Matthew~~~!

Hi Matthew,

Saw your response to Sally that you lived in Vermont for a while. Just curious where. I love being home in this state.

And you're right, anyone with a cupboard full of pure maple syrup is worth keeping around!

I have a cupboard full of pure maple candy. Does that count too?

Love,

Polly

Like you, Vermont is one of my favorite places. I graduated from UVM and then lived in Charlotte and then near Rutland for a while. I miss the rolling hills and all the vegetation living where I do now in the high desert.

Polly
No question, pure Maple candy counts. Maybe more so in that it is so refined.

Love

Ah, a Groovy UV grad! I'm working on the new Student Center that they are building. Its nice up there too. I'm down in Springfield...what used to be a "big" town. The machine tool industry tanked in the 80s and 90s though, so its a much quieter place now. But thats fine with me. Veggetation is an understatement! With all the rain we've had this spring/summer the lawn is growing almost visibly

 Melissa,

One year, long ago in a galaxie far far - no wait - that was Star Wars....One year a long time ago, my husband decided that we should make some maple syrup. He tapped the trees (bucket style) and it was my job to cook it down on our gas stove no less. I do NOT recommend that way to "evaporate" the sap. My house plants had water dripping off the leaves. The bottled gas man made extra money but the syrup was good.

Thanks for bringing back a memory.....

Allen has a maple tree tap in his hoard of memorabilia. Does that count?

No?

Oh, all right.

Yup, syrup should be evaporated outside or in the barn...definately not in the house! Although by sugaring season we are dying for a little humidity in our houses.

Making syrup is fun. I am trying to convince Geoff we should tap one or two of the trees in the yard, just for fun.
