Wow - lucky move....

Post by CAMary »

Mike started his new job 11/13. He likes it so far (not loving the commute - but it's tolerable...) and his boss has big plans for him - good opportunities...He gets to help hire the people to work in his department...

Today we found out his old company is shutting down the facility here in town - 500 people will be laid off December 15 (bah humbug and Merry Christmas!) He would have only received 6 weeks severance (AKA we would have been *so* screwed financially!!)

They are moving the division to Colorado as they think it will be more cost-effective (people in CA want too much money, apparently  - we have our real estate prices to thank for that, LOL!) - so they aren't offering anyone transfers - I guess they hope to hire people for cheap once they get set up out there...

The HR lady is so nice @ the new job - she told Mike to "have the quality employees send us their resumes - you have 3 kids to put through college, so we need to rack up some referral bonuses for you!"

Someone is *definitely* watching out for us - this oppportunity fell into his lap - and the facility closure was a complete shock/surprise to everyone...

Oh yeah, and I got a call-back from a former client - apparently 7th grade algebra is giving her a run for her money - so my tutoring has kicked up again, and my husband is no longer traveling all over, so I can take on the additional evening hours...

Life is good

Everything in life happens for a reason. SO happy for you guys. Sounds like you were on the right path all along regardless of the reason for the job switch. That's similar to a project manager at an office of my former company who left and 1 week later the president closed the office with no advanced warning.

YOu have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. Hope its a good one.

How are the kiddies doing?

Hi Mary,

It is always wonderful to hear such great news and to have hubby home more and to have moved before such an unexpected shutdown, shows that there is always an angel on our shoulders.

Love, Maggie
