Liz and Maggie

Post by tex »

Good Morning,

I stayed up late and went through all the tables in the database which display user permissions for the forum that you are unable to see. Both of you definitely have all the permissions you need to be able to view, post, reply, edit, etc., in that forum.

This means that the the problem has to be connected with your browsers, and/or cookie settings. Either your browsers are using corrupt cookies, or they are misinterpreting those cookies. First of all, your browser has to be set to accept cookies from the board, but I don't think that's the problem, or you wouldn't be able to navigate on the board without having to log in again, every time you tried to post.

Let's try this one more time, to be absolutely sure that we're all on the same page:

Delete all the cookies in your browser.
Close your browser.
Reboot your computer.

When you reboot it, and navigate to this discussion board, the system should ask you to log in, and when you do, it should set a new cookie, which should convey the necessary permissions to your browser, via the cookie, so that you can see that forum. If the system doesn't require you to log in, then it is still using a corrupt cookie.

The problem almost certainly has to lie within the browsers you are using, but if this doesn't work, I'm not aware of any other pitfalls that might prevent them from working correctly. Browsers keep getting more and more complex with each new version, though, so it's certainly possibly that there are other settings glitches that I may not be aware of.

Another possibility is the firewall settings that you are using on your computers. Usually, though, you'll get an error message if you try to download something that a firewall setting doesn't allow. Again, though, they're getting so complex, that it's impossible to know all the ins and outs of them.

We'll eventually track it down, but this is a tough, tough problem, that seems to keep popping up for the two of you.

Love,
Tex

P S I'll probably be gone most of the day today, but I'll try to check in before I leave, and I'll take a notebook with me, so that I can check in later in the afternoon, to see if there are any hints of success, or other clues.

Liz,

Don't give up yet. Let's try one more thing. I appreciate your patience.

Tomorrow, I'll set you up as a moderator for that forum, and I'm betting that will forced the system to give you global permission. You'll probably have to clear your cookie cache again, and then close and reload your browser, but that should work. If it doesn't, then I give up, (unless I or someone else comes up with a brainstorm).

I'll post or PM you when I get it done.

Love,
Wayne

Liz and Maggie,

OK, now you should both be able to see those two forums that you have been unable to view. If you still can't see them, I guess I'll be forced to do the honorable thing and fall on my sword, since I don't seem to have any other options left. LOL.

Love,
Wayne

Do not fall on a sword. Cannot access at work but will try home. Do not want to mess with their system.

Love, Maggie
