What are the duties of a moderator Wayne. Is there any thing special that you need to know or do. Never had this honour before so not quite sure what is expected of me.

What are the duties of a moderator
Moderators: Rosie, Stanz, Jean, CAMary, moremuscle, JFR, Dee, xet, Peggy, Matthew, Gabes-Apg, grannyh, Gloria, Mars, starfire, Polly, Joefnh
Hi Liz,
Well, moderator status gives you the ability to edit and/or delete posts made by other users, (in the event that a post appears to deviate from a "socially acceptable" norm). For example, we have at least one underage member, so X-rated comments are verboten, as is profanity, etc. (The X-rated forum is not visable to underage members).
I've added features to this board which empower moderators to do things that are not normally possible, with moderator status on other boards. Such as, the ability to set a user's account inactive, in the event that you spot a suspected "troublemaker", before an administrator notices the problem. When a user's account is made inactive, that member can no longer post, until a moderator or an admin sets the account back to "active" status. Also, the system is set up to automatically replace certain "forbidden" words, and moderators have the ability to edit and add to that word list.
Also, I have added a feature that allows moderators to split off certain posts from a topic, to start a new topic, or to meld them with other existing topics. That maneuver is seldom used, and it can be a bit tricky, but if you feel that you want to be able to use it, PM me, and I'll go through the details.
This board runs so smoothly that normally, very little moderating is ever needed. We have enough moderators that most of them never actually do any moderating, so actually, you don't have to do anything. If you want to learn the ropes, though, just in case you might ever feel like "cracking the whip", PM me, and we'll go over the details of all the possibilities, (or at least the ones you might be interested in).
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
