OT - Weird skin rash caused by sesame oil??

Post by m »

Hi,
This is totally off topic but I have this weird rash on the back of my hands and the inside of my elbows. Like contact dermatitis but I can't think of anything I've been in contact with recently that would cause it. I did eat stir fry two days ago and used sesame oil. My tummy didn't feel so good yesterday and now today I have this rash. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I looked it up on WebMD and a skin rash is an allergic reaction to sesame oil. I have the exact same reaction when I have taken a sulfa-based medication. No new meds so what's going on? How weird.

Melisa

Seems like anything might be true with MC. I don’t know what the oil connection is with me but still seem to tolerate olive oil the best. I can eat potatoes without their jackets but potato chips are still out of the question. I can only figure that it’s the oils they use to fry them in. Or the wheat or corn or whatever that they use to keep them from sticking to the production line.

Hope things clear up fast. My diet has resolved some skin problems over the years with itching that cold drive me mad.

Hahaha. Not a long trip.

Happiest of Holidays

Try rubbing the oil on part of your skin to see if you get a reaction. I'd say if you see one then I'd cut it for sure. Any type of allergic relaction is bad and if it's reacting this way on your skin it will react the same way in your GI, which is inflammation.
