Soy?

Post by kate_ce1995 »

Well,

I'm starting to wonder if I have a soy intolerance. I think it was mentioned when I had a reaction (apparently) to a hershey bar a couple of weeks ago. Well Monday night I was very sick....awful gas/indigestion. Granted the worst of it started immediately after my chiropractor appointment, but I had also eaten a bunch of Mi-Del gf cinnamon snaps on the way to the appointment to get me through until dinner and they contain soy.

Yesterday was pretty bad, although by late afternoon I was feeling better stomach wise, just not energy wise. We'll see what today brings.

Gotta run and get the kids on the bus.

Hi Katy,

I have kept a food journal this past year and looking over it I have to say I had the worst reaction to soy than any of my other allergies. It's strange because before I got sick I was having a soy smoothie every morning for breakfast. I kept thinking I was reacting to salmon at first because I cook it with a soy and maple syrup reduction. Thankfully it wasn't the salmon but the soy sauce. These things are sooo hard to figure out aren't they?

Love,
Cristi

Katy and Cristi-

Soy is one of the worst things I can possibly eat. I believe that their are many people here that have reported that they can not eat it. Sorry that you missed the idea and are still suffering from the misconception that it is a good food. . And maybe missed this

Read carefully. The soy loby has brainwashed much of the american public.

I still do my best to try and get even healthy people to not eat soy or anything with soy in it. Like so many other things it is a scam that is supposed to be good for you and yet looking at the research it is really an anti nutrient.

So much for my soap box

Love

Well, yesterday started out great and then after lunch I polished off a few potato chips that I had left (Stax..which are gf and say so) at my desk. They do contain soy. All afternoon my stomach hurt. Sharp pain on the right side.

So I will focus on avoiding it for a while. I have never been enthused by soy, and with all the hormonal problems I already had, adding those supposedly good phytoestrogens always seemed like a bad idea. But when it's in stuff, I don't worry about the small amount.

So what do I need to look for other than the Allergan warnings on food? I am getting farther away from processed food, but there are still times I don't have the time or energy to prepare food.

Katy,

Jean's soy list, (in the Information On Diet forum), shows the derivatives of soy that often show up on labels.

Try ordinary potato chips, such as Lays Classic Potato Chips. Most "plain" chips are gluten free. Here's a list of FritoLay's gluten free products - note that there are waaaaaaaaay over a hundred snacks in this list:

It's always necessary to check the label for other undesirable ingredients, such as soy, of course, especially with "flavored" shacks.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
