Checking-in

Post by JJ »

Hi gang...I'm back...my phone was out for 1 1/2 days...also no power for 12 hours. The NW was hit with hurricane force winds without the hurricane...it was really scary...I only lost some shingles and Christams decorations...the neighbors lost a tree in their backyard....many people still have no power and too boot....it was below freezing last night and will be about 26 degrees tonight. Shelters have been set-up to house people who have no power. I have only experienced one storm as bad and that was the Columbus Day storm in the '60's. We had a bad storm in 1993, but this was worse than that. My sister had many trees down on her driveway and may not have power for days. She gave me lots of good stuff out of her freezer after she made it out of her place.

So....never a dull moment......glad I had battery lamps, a cell phone, and battery TV...sigh. It could have been worse!

I had a new student arrive today....she is from Hong Kong....I have more students arriving later in the month...one for only a day...hahaha..I must be nuts!

Hey....the T-shirt arrived today....very cool Tex...thanks so much!

I need to go now...must pick-up a friend's daughter at Sea-Tac...my friend has the stomach flu and can't drive....TTFN...JJ

Hi Jill,

Wasn't that storm something else?! Your area was hit a lot worse that ours. What a mess. We are pretty lucky, no damage and no power outage at our house. Other parts of town had a lot of damage and are still without power. The traffic was a mess!

I am glad you are okay!

Hugs

Hi Lori...I heard that Oregon got it too...so glad you didn't have dammage...my sis may be without power for another week and my friends on Vashon are also "camping" in their house. My friend likes cooking on the wood stove, but says the dishes are over-flowing in the sink and they are hauling buckets of water form the well house. Their carport ended up in the neighbor's pasture....yikes! I still have someone's recycling bin ....it landed on the curb by my house.....many are still without power....I'm sure I will hear more stories at school tomorrow....It is supposed to be 26 tonight....just moved the car into the garage..I have an early meeting at school, and won't feel like scraping the windshield in the cold. TTFN...JJ

Glad you are safe Jill. Seems that storms are getting more severe. Could that have something to do with climate change due to greenhouse emissions? There have been some doozies around here with one that passed pretty close by us last this week. Lots of damage just west of us at Kilkoy & a bit further north. We are expecting more of the same this summer. All we got was a few spots of rain & a lightening show. Would have loved a bit more of the rain but not of course the winds which did all the damage.

Love

Liz
