Question about arthritic creams

Post by annie oakley »

I take pain killers for bad pain, but I am trying out some arthritic creams hoping that I can find a good one that I can use more often than the Pain Killer. I have tried Aspercream, and Bio-freeze. They help for awhile, but like anyone else I am interested in trying other ones. :hyper: I have Ultram and for really bad days I have some Loratabs. Loratabs are big guns and don't take those til it gets real bad. It's been bad lately and am concidering using my cane during bad bouts. I forgot though, do you walk with the cane on the opposite side of the bad knee or the same side? That's silly I know, But I forgot. :elephant: so.....any suggestions will be helpful my dear family :peace2:

Hiya Calamity----

Well all I remember, when my mom broke her hip, and walking up and down stairs was---up with the good and down with the bad!!!

I dont think that will help --just thought I would throw that in---

As far as a medicated cream/ointment--I came across this Oriental medicated oil---called PO-Sum-On---Doug gave it to me and when I have an ache----back--neck---fingers--etc. I rub that on and it is wonderful--

Of course I dont think I am suffering as U are---and I wish I could offer more help--

Take care----dear Calamity--

I use an anti-inflamitory cream called 'Voltaran' at times & also a sort of liniment called 'Tiger Balm' which can be pretty effective in easing local muscular pain. Don't know if they are available in USA. The Asian shops should have the 'Tiger Balm' or something similar. Anything is worth a try.

You can get Voltaran in capsule form but as it is an NSAID I try to avoid it. Had a horror day last Saturday after riding around in my sisters sports car & took one in desperation & boy did I suffer for it with the D. It was not so much the riding around but the getting into that caused the problem. It is very low to the ground & I sort of bumped the last few inches on to the seat & must have jarred my back.

Pat'scar. Very sporty. Will have to have some more practice getting in if I am to go playing "Thelma & Louise" with her again. Robert reckons a fork lift or block & tackle would help.

Love

Oma

A friend of mine swears by Triflora Arthritis Gel. I have never used it it might be worth a try.

http://www.naturesway.com/NaturesWay/pr ... d=21825290

It is a homeopathic cream applied to the skin so I would hope it would not cause digestion problems.

Hope you can find it and it works.

Happy New Year

When I used a cane for my bad knee I used it on the opposite side. Then I would get a pain in the elbow that was using the cane! I think that might have been from having the cane at the wrong height. Ya' can't win.

I also liked to put cold on the sore knee--those blue malleable icey packs that you keep in the freezer.

Good luck, Oma.

Matthew....Thank you for the link, I have bookmarked that site. Looks good. I do Like that sprt of treatment when I can find it. Pain Pills should be used as last resort. I may order some stuff Payday.

Liz ....I have Tiger Balm, And forgot about it, may try some of that also.
Nice Sports car, be careful and don't hurt your back any more.

Kathy, I have Ice packs and use those in the evening before I go to bed, but need an ointment or cream or pack of some kind to wear to bed (romantic Huh?) I am getting the cane out tonight and will start to use it tomorrow. I guess vanity was holding me back, but pain has taken over in place of Vanity

Thanks all....Love Oma
