How are you celebrating this New Years Eve?
We are staying home, having a few friends over for chili and drinks of coarse. Alans trying to plow out the rink on the lake but we have had so much snow it's looking pretty messy. Maybe broomball rather than skating.
Well have a big bonfire and play outside in the snow this evening right up to midnight at which time everyone around the lake blows off fireworks. Fireworks are a big thing in Alaska for New Years Eve because on July 4th it's too light out to enjoy them. It's become quite a competition over the years to see who puts on the best show so theres lot's of action. The kids love it!
What's everyone else doing?
Love,
Joanna

Hi Joanna,
Sounds like you and your family and friends have a good old-fashioned New Year's Eve planned. That should be a lot of fun.
We've been so dry here, up until just a little over a week ago, that there's a burn ban on, in this part of Texas, so fireworks are verboten, almost everywhere around here.
I may do a little visiting, along about late afternoon/early evening, but when midnight rolls around, I'll be at home, behaving myself. LOL.
Love,
Tex

May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Hi Joanna!
We are doing our usual boring suburban NYEve celebration, LOL! We get together with our 2-doors-down neighbors and the kids take over the family room and watch movies, while we play games (cards, usually) in the living room. We have tons of snacks out, so we nibble all evening, then crack out the champagne @ midnight.
They usually host, and sometimes have a couple of other random people join us, but we are hosting tonight...the husband is "on-call" for work - so he can't drink and isn't feeling particularly celebratory - so I've been cleaning all day, and baking, too! Mike just ran the kids to Blockbuster to load up on movies
It's nice to have fun - but not have to go "out"! And we went over to our friends' last night for dinner - we *did* set off some "illegal" (in CA) fireworks we had left from our trek through Montana this summer....so the boys (including the grown-up ones ) got their explosives fix, LOL!!
Enjoy your night - the snow sounds fun!!

Hi...I'm staying home and was going to have my usual party of neighbors and friends. One friend is sick, the neighbors were invited to a work related party, my niece is too tired to come, so one friend is coming and I will have 4-5 International kids here...for dinner then party. I am baking chicken for dinner....then for later, I made a big pot of clam chowder and will make hot artichoke dip too. Oh...also baked an apple pie too.
I need to scoot now...need to try out my new ax.....my fire wood chunks are too wide.
Happy New Year...JJ

Wow! If you're going to start cutting your firewood with an ax, you really will start dropping the weight. That's "industrial strength" exercise.

Had a pretty quiet night last night (New Years Eve here) but are having a couple of neighbours in this afternoon to toast the new year. Afraid my staying power has gone & raging days are over. Most of the time I am flat out trying to stay awake to see thre new year in. Personal fireworks have been banned here for many years now but there are great displays in all the capital cities. can see them on TV if you can't get to them personally.

Harry and I are not drinkers...2 or 3 a year out to dinner and I worked until 11 so I will probably just go to sleep. Oh, a friend makes the most wonderful fruit cake loaded with Brandy and sends me every year for Christmas so I will have some of that before my medicines catch up with me. Souncds like you are going to have a wonderful celebration, Joanna. Wish I was up to something like that. Love, Carol

At least you got that far Polly! I was in bed at 8:00. Of course I am recovering from a cold and a tummy bug, so feel pretty icky. Feel better this morning except my muscles ache like crazy. I'm sure its related to being cleaned out of all beneficial nutrients. Geoff says it's from lying around for 2 days...maybe that too.

I eased into the new year in sorta the same way. I bought a new Pocket PC Phone Edition, (a pocket computer with a built in phone), and spent several hours reading the discussion forums on this particular model, (a Cingular 8525), and got so engrossed with all the good tips, that by the time I came up for air, I was already more than an hour into 2007. LOL. At least I was still awake, though.
