Hi Everyone:

I know I've missed tons and can't possibly catch up, so will start from today.
I'm sorry to hear about the flares and have known about Peggy's, of course, and hope Norman visits her soon.
We've had a busy holiday season, lots of family get togethers (and fun) and all busy with parties, etc. and 5 craft shows.
I've been fighting a cold since Jan. 1 (wonderful way to start the New Year) and it's bronchial now and nasty!!! Peggy has it also, as do many of my family and friends.
We've had a terrible family scare. My granddaughter, Sara, had a fainting spell at work, fell and cracked her skull and has a really severe concussion. She's 16 and an overachiever and hasn't been eating right - she's about 5'6" and only 100 lb. Well, needless to say, she's spending some time in the hospital to recuperate and get some nutrition counselling. Hopefully she will be home by the weekend, but she sure gave us a scare.
She sure was a lucky girl - there was a fireman, a nurse and an ambulance attendant in her lineup - (she works in a grocery store), so she got immediate first aid.
It seems to be a trend with teenage girls these days to diet and also going vegetarian, but they don't have the knowledge to do it right. I am going to talk to my daughter about talking to the school principal and counsellors about bringing this up at the school and giving the kids some education about diet. Sara could have lost her life over this and I hope it's a wake-up call for her and her friends.
Anyway, I've sure been a worried Grandma and frustrated because I'm sick and can't go to them.
Well, Sara sure doesn't need my cold on top of it.
Anyway, just wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and will be better about checking in.

Love - Momster

Wow, very scary about Sara. I hope she will do better from now on, eating wise, and will recover from the concussion. That is a hot topic right now--the popular ultra-skinny image being so unhealthy--and she's proof! Between that and the other trend, childhood obesity, we're pretty much a body image mess. Fingers are crossed for her. :xfingers:

I have had that cold also--since way before Christmas. It is only a remnant now, occasional cough, but it is the longest lasting cold I've had for years. And the first couple of weeks were pretty miserable, with pain moving around from my eye to my ear to my jaw, etc. I think several people on the board have had it. Hope the board isn't a vector!

Hi Irene,

As I told you earlier today, the cold has been here in PA too and just getting over it - 3 week plus.

I think that subject should be discussed in all school since girls are just being slammed with the skinny image. If they go vegetarian, they must know what they are doing or they will pay the price. That is from a very long-time vegan. Research and do it right. My prayers are with her.

Love, Maggie

Hi Momster...I work with teenage girls, and know what a tough time some teens have with body image, dieting,,,,bulimia and anorexia. And, it seems that often it strikes the good students who are the over achievers. I hope she will get the help she needs while in the hospital...take care kiddo...JJ

Hi Momster!

I know it must have been so frightening for Sara and your family. But hopefully it will serve a a wake-up call for the young lady. I agree that this problem is far too common today. A young lady in her twenties, who is the daughter of one of my husband's business partners, died yesterday from anorexia. Tragic. It is important for those suffering from this problem to get treatment from folks who have special training and expertise.

I hope you can shake your cold soon. Thanks for dropping in and catching us up. Don't be a stranger - we miss you, Momstar!

Love,

Polly
