I won the lottery (the 5th grade science camp chaperone lottery, that is!), LOL!

I get to spend 3 days here at environmental camp w/my 10 year old at the end of February! I'm excited about seeing the elephant seals and probably migrating whale sightings....there will be tidepooling as well! Of course I get to sleep in the girls' dorm, and manage *that* chaos (it's been awhile - but I *did* teach 5th grade for a year about 12 years ago...) But a 3-day "working vacation" by the coast at no cost to me - yipee!
We went to a parent info meeting in December with the guy who runs the hostel/program. He says they are happy to work with special dietary needs - and it is a pretty kid-friendly menu - I believe chaperones have kitchen access - so I will probably just bring what I need for myself - and store it there - I don't trust other people to shop for me!
All of you "animal people" are influencing me - we also housed the preschool guinea pigs over the Christmas break for 2.5 weeks - they were fun, but *did* seem to aggravate Mike's allergies...the kids were really great about helping care/clean up after them - they even got baby carrots in their Christmas stockings (the 8 y.o.s idea!)
Mary
I get to go here....
