Ok we made it to work today, but around 2pm it started snowing...I turned to look out the window and saw the blasted white stuff! Dang it! Altho I would rather have snow than Ice.
I hate snow and Ice. I can drive on it but hate it. Mike cleaned off the step (hoping it stays de-Iced) but it may be covered up again as we are under one of the watches that can do nothing about.

We've had ice for two days now. It's been mostly freezing rain and sleet, but we had a little snow today - not enough snow to talk about, though. The roads have mostly been OK, though, except for certain areas.
The icicles are getting to be 8 to 10 inches long, this afernoon, as the ice melts on roofs, runs down, and then refreezes.

It's not that it's particularly severe, (though I'm sure it's probably much colder where Oma lives), it's just very rare for something like this to happen at all, let alone hang on for three days with temps remaining below the freezing mark all day each day, and frozen or freezing precip continuing to fall each day.
We were supposed to warm up to the mid 30s tomorrow, but now I see that the forecast max temperature for tomorrow is 31 degrees. Hmmmmm.
It's getting close to the point where I may have to start ducking when I walk into some of these farm buildings with corrugated metal roofs, because the icicles are getting long enough to be close to head height. LOL. Never had that problem before.

Hi Tex...I know what you mean...Tacoma rarely has snow that stays around this long....whacky whacky weather! I wonder if you could make an ice sculpture????...hmmmm.....nah...all that work and then it would melt...how conceptual...lol...nite....JJ
The biggest problem is that I don't have the talent needed to make an ice sculpture. LOL.

Hmm, Tex, you may want to start knocking some of those icicles down before the weather warms up. Nothing worse than daggers sliding off the roof at random times as they start to melt.
We are at -3 this morning. Real January weather. Looks like January Thaw (an actual event) is coming this weekend though as we'll be back in the 30s. I'm glad I got the drilling done on one of my projects yesterday. Today is cold enough that the rig probably wouldn't start.
Just saw that Buffalo, TX has had no power for 5 days and everyone is huddled together in the emergency shelter. You people have really had it bad while we are just turning cold. Make snow showers tomorrow but would appreciate one good snow before Winter exits.
Stay warm and start knocking those icicles down - they are dangerous.

Katy, I remember the first time I went skiing in VT (Sugarbush). You had to take your car battery inside every night and put that deicer stuff in the gas tank every morning. It was so cold (approaching minus 50 with the wind chill) they gave us blankets on the ski lift. And of course they had to stop the lifts whenever the wind got too bad. (I was up in the air when they stopped the lift for 20 min. or so due to wind. - thought I was a goner). One cool thing was that you could make ice cubes by filling the ice tray with water and leaving it outside for a few minutes. It doesn't sound like you are having that kind of winter.

That's probably a good idea - I may knock down a few of the icicles in the worst places, just in case. I think I'll wait until this afternoon to try that though, they're still pretty tough this morning. A lot of them are in the 12 to 14 inch range, today. It's ideal icicle growing weather. LOL. At least we're not anywhere near as cold as it is in Vermont.
We've been lucky, with no power problems so far. Of course, the biggest risk to power lines and poles, (other than tree limbs), is when the ice starts to melt, and it falls off in large sections, causing the cables to whip, and break the line or poles farther down the line - sort of a tsunami effect.

Tex can knock down all the Ice he wants, but I have a hard time walking at all around here. There was two in of Ice on my porch this am. Mike knocked alot off so I wouldn't fall, then Ice all the way to the gate and truck (on dirt),
The ride to work today was at 30 mi per hr for 50 mi. Solid Ice and several in of snow on top of the Ice, which appened to stick in places and not in others. The loop we were on was closed to traffic coming on but we could get off when we needed. They delayed all the schools til 10am then cancelled them al together at noon, that's strange to me that they would even open for that short time.
I have been cold all day at work. Made an Enchalada caserole for potluck at work just to make it warmer. We are also under a watch again tonight with.....Ice, sleet, rain and snow on the way again. Love it ! Yea! Anyway it may be a slow go tomorrow again. Took us 40 min longer than usual to get there, we were extra careful. I am Like Tex, I can't Sculpt either, Ice or clay. Anyway Polly If I can I will surely send you all the snow if possible.

I figured you had a lot more ice than we have around here. About a quarter to a half inch is all that we have, but it seems just as slick as 2 inches. LOL. I only slipped down once today, but it was enough to make me remember to watch my business the rest of the day.
The roads were in pretty good condition again this afternoon in this part of Texas, but the ice still covers nearly everything else. This is getting kind of monotonous - the ice doesn't want to melt. The temp is supposed to get above the freezing mark tomorrow afternoon, with a chance of rain. Maybe the rain will melt some of it. I notice they're predicting a "wintry mix" after dark, though, so we may be right back in the same old pattern. I sure hope not.
