Hello, All It's Barbara5603

Post by Barbara5603 »

I know it's been about 100 years since I was last here! Just wanted to drop in and say hello.

I am home recovering from a total hip replacement last Tuesday. Can't believe it's been just 9 days since surgery and I am moving around fairly well with a walker. Will soon be graduating to a cane!

I am still in Michigan but will be returning to Florida within the next 4 to 5 months depending on my recovery. The company that my husband, Ken, was working for was sold and he was offered a position with a company back in Tampa. This is my 3rd Michigan winter and I will not miss it.

We did, however, buy a condo last year and will be putting it on the market soon. Those of you who live in this area know what that means! It's a beautiful place and I will miss it, but unfortunately it's too expensive to maintain 2 homes. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again!

Anyway, I hope everyone is good. I haven't had time to read through much of the board but I fully intend to. I've tried to log on a few times but always had problems. So glad I finally got on today. I have missed you all and hopefully will catch up soon.

Hi Numbered Barbara,

It's good to "see" you back here again, and I'm glad to see that you're recovering so well from the surgery. I hope your MC has been behaving itself.

I hope you don't have any more login problems, so that you can visit regularly. If you should have any more login problems, please don't hesitate to ask for help.

Thanks for the update. You have a lot of posts to catch up on - there have probably been over 20,000 posts since your last visit. LOL.

Hi Barbara & Tex

My surgery resulted from an old ski injury from about 15 - 17 years ago added to that all the tennis that I played in Florida and my hip just gave out. My surgeon said he was amazed that I was able to function because I was basically rubbing bone against bone. There was virtually no cartlidge left. Function is a relative term, and the last couple of months there was no "function" of the hip. The cold weather really pushed me over the edge.
But it's over now and life is changing once again. I am fortunate to have had Ken home with me this past week and for the next two weeks before he begins his new job. I could not have made this recovery on my own.

And Tex, I got your e-mail w/instructions, but I had no problem logging in today. So let's keep our fingers crossed. It's great to be back.

Hi N. Barb,
So glad you are doing well with the new hip and hoping it continues the same way.

So glad you posted and, like the others, hope to hear from you more often.

Barbara - my surgeon used titanium. He wanted to use ceramic for the ball portion but could not find a prothesis small enough. So he went 100% titanium. I guess now when I play tennis I can hit the ball with my racket or just whack it with my hip

The process is really amazing. It takes between 60 and 90 minutes for the entire operation. I went in on Tuesday AM, was up and moving around on Wednesday, Thursday, and home on Friday.

Wow, a 100 years already??????? Glad to hear from you!

Glad your recovering nicely from the hip replacement. I've heard that the recovery is painful but the end result is worth it! Keep up the good work!
