Corn starch in my Rx?

Post by Beth »

Hi all,

I just got off the phone with the manufacturer of the SSRI I'm on, and the company said that it uses corn starch as the filler. Could this be contributing to my D, do you think? They did say it's gf.

Thanks,
Beth

Hi Beth,

Many of us are intolerant of corn and it's derivatives. I can eat it now, but until I completely healed, it made me sick.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Beth,

I might be wrong, but I think I remember that Jean had a compounding pharmacy make her an SSRI without her intolerances.

Hi Polly,

Thanks for mentioning the compounding pharmacy. I called one today, and they said that the particular SSRI I'm on hasn't released the patent yet, even in the generic form, for them to be able to gain access to the powder. So, it looks like I'm going to have to stick with my corn-filled SSRI for now. I don't even know if it's contributing to my illness, but I know I would be even more ill if I just stopped taking the SSRI. (By the way, in case anyone is in a similar situation, I'm taking the generic form of Celexa, called citalopram.)
