Harry is in trouble.......
Hi everyone,
We just found out yesterday that Harry (my husband) has cancer. It is in his right kidney and is called Renal Cell Carcinoma. Our GP has been watching this....through the eyes of the Radiologists.....for almost 2 1/2 years. It has grown from nickle sized to half as large as his kidney.
We have been using the local hospital, which is supposed to be the best in our area, but yesterday we went to the Cleveland Clinic.
The Dr. there was outraged that it had been let go for so long. He took the time to show us all the MRI films to show the progression of the mass. He is having another CT Scan in the morning and also a PET Scan to make sure it has not metastisized. He is already scheduled for surgery to remove the kidney on Feb. 26.
I have been beside myself but trying to hold together for his benefit. He is one of those people who will say "Whatever will be will be" but just from a few sentances I can tell what he is really thinking.
I have been mainly lurking for all of Jan. and up to now. I have had some health issues also but nothing this serious. I have been on sick leave since 1-13.
I will leave you tonight with a funny thing that happened. I had to wear a Holter Moniter for 24 hours and it had to be returned to the drs. office last Friday morning. Harry didn`t feel well and even though one of my problems has been vertigo I told him I felt well enough to drive.
I was almost there when I noticed Police lights behind me. The officer told me that a concerned citizen had been following me and had seen me weaving all over the road. Wanted to know if I was OK, had I taken any meds, etc. checked out my license and let me go. The road I had been on is hilly and curvy and I honestly thought I was doing fine. Guess not....... and no more driving for me until we get to the root of the problem.
Heading for bed now. Must get up at 4 AM as the Clinic is 40 miles away and much traffic.
Please pray for Harrys health and my sanity until this is over. God bless you all. Love all of you.

Carol,
I'm so sorry about Harry's health. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Remember to take care of yourself too.
The Cleveland Clinic is a fantastic hospital. I am glad Harry is in good hands!
You will both be in my prayers.

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha
Hi Carol,
I'm sorry to hear of Harry's problem, and your own health issues, as well. I know it's hard to keep from worrying, but he is now getting the best care available, so the odds should definitely be in his favor.
I have a friend who had a kidney removed for that same reason, years ago, and if I recall correctly, it was even farther along, when it was discovered. He was in his early thirties at the time, and as far as I know, he has been doing fine ever since.
You will both be in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Oh Carol,
When it rains it pours. Both of you with health problems at the same time.
Good news that you will be in a University Hospital. I do know that renal cancer can grow very slowly and take a long time before it metasizes (although I also wish the GP had been more proactive). I have a friend whose renal cell cancer was picked up as an incidental finding when she was given an xray to evaluate a GYN problem. They had no idea how long it was there. Anyway, Michele had the kidney removed - that was 11 years ago - and she had no further problems and remains just as healthy as can be.
Positive thoughts, good wishes and prayers are being sent to both of you.
Love,
Polly

Jaco, a parrot in Salzburg, could not only speak but seemed to understand grammar. Whenever his person left, Jaco would say "God be with you." But when several people were departing, Jaco would change it to "God be with all of you."

Thank you all for your love, prayers and support. You cannot imagine how much it means to me.
I am trying to type with just my left hand. Last night after doing his necessary things our dog, Toby followed a man and his dog home instead of coming back inside. Harry had already gone to sleep so I went out looking for him, couldn`t find him so was rushing back inside to wake Harry, slipped on the icy patio and broke my right wrist. I don`t know what else can go wrong. The only good thing is the man called to tell us he had him. Thank God for good semaratins. Toby is like our baby.
Again thank you, good people. Love to you all, Carol

I am so sorry.
My prayers and thoughts are with both of you. I am sure that they have done this kind of surgery many times and according to others, it is a well known Hospital so everything will turn out well.
Take care of yourself too and keep up the faith (if possible, avoid driving for a while until you find yourself better).
A big, big hug for both
With love,
Tessa

Aw, Carol,
What a bummer. Your luck absolutely has to improve. I hope it's a relatively simple break, that will heal quickly, without complications.
Love,
Tex
