Oh you guys....we were just told that one of boarding students died this morning. The students haven't been told any details except that she went to the hospital late last night and was sick. Actually, she took an over dose and was in critical condition this morning...the RA's on duty found her when they did room check last night....this is terribble! She was a senior and there were only about 17 students in the senior class.....very small tight group. I am going to stick around...a lot of kids just need hugs....faculty too. I'm sure that grief counselors must be on the way. OMG...this is just very very sad. More later...have to go check on things....JJ

Thanks you guys....what a day! I am just numb and sick...makes my problems seem pretty darn insignificant. I am done at 1 each day, so took our two visiting Japanese girls to my house. They are at the school for 4 weeks and since all classes were canceled this afternoon, they would be just sitting around with a bunch of very sad people. We came to my house and made cookies, built a fire and I taught them a card game. The topic came up about going back to the dorm, and they said they didn't want to, so I have them here with me tonight! Very fun...blew up the queen size air mattress and fits well in the living room. We made spaghetti and they taught me or tried to teach me to fold cranes. So...I have a house full tonight...a total of 4 International kids here...hahahahaha. Little do they know that I didn't really want to be alone today and they helped me a great deal. Tomorrow will be sad...but they are going to Astoria, Oregon on a school trip. Nite nite...JJ

Thanks again for your prayers.....JJ

Jill,

That was a wonderful thing for you to do. Everyone wins in a situation like that.

Thanks Tex...I think all are tucked-in....they had to fight the cat for the air bed...the cat looked pretty comfy when I came upstairs...haha. I am not looking forward to tomorrow...but glad grief professionals will be available on campus. I wrote to the school in Vail today...I have a couple of weeks to get my application materials to them. Nite nite.....JJ

JJ,

My prayers go out to the family of the poor girl and to the students and teachers at the school and to you.

What you did last night was a wonderful thing to do. The girls being international students are probably less exposed to this type of thing which seems to be something happening more and more in this country with our teen population. It was a GOOD thing for them and for you. Being alone would have been such a heavy heart and they helped to lighten it and you their's.

Love, Maggie

Thanks again everybody....we are all keeping close tabs on the students ...taking care of them and ourselves is our primary concern at the moment. We are having classes as usual, but letting kids leave for counseling as needed. Still don't know the exact cause of death....it may have been her heart that gave out as a result of other things. The official word is "short illness" ...(out of respect to her and her family).

Sigh....deep breath.

Jill-

So sorry to hear of the tragedy! I'm glad you are able to offer comfort and companionship to the international students, and hopefully it is keeping your mind off your own work issues - take care!

Another teacher and I flew the coup and took our two Japanese students out for a sushi lunch.....yum! I am home resting for an hour before I go back and teach my little after school watercolor class. I hope my own International students are in a good mood tonight....they were not very friendly to our guests last night....sigh. But, the two Japanese girls are comfortable staying in the dorm tonight, so things will be back to the old routine at my house. TTFN....JJ
