Hi all,
When you log on to the board, does a window pop up, claiming that you have porn on your computer, and requesting, (insisting), that you download a program called "DriveCleaner", (or something similar)?
If so, don't download it. I don't know if it will download a virus or not, but it shouldn't be there. I had to close my browser to get it to stop popping up. When I reopened my browser, it was OK.
Someone PM'ed me about this, earlier today, and had the same experience this morning, that I had, last night. I couldn't find any trace of it on my computer, so it's beginning to appear that it may have somehow become established in the files that operate the board, (on a remote server).
I haven't figured out a way to run a virus scan on the remote server, so I'll call my ISP again, and see if they will/can do it. If nothing is found, and others are having the same problem, I guess I'll have to upload a backup copy of the board files, to overwrite the ones on the server.
Another possibility comes to mind - it could be a rogue add-on for Firefox. If you are also seeing this pop-up, I would appreciate hearing about it, and if you are using Firefox as a browser, I would like to know that also. I'm not sure that the program that is asking to be installed is "malignant", but it is a nuisance for sure, and it certainly shouldn't be there, if it has somehow gotten into the server files.

You sure are right saying that pop up Drive Cleaner is a real pain in the arse!!!!! I had it last night on my computer!!!
I'm not using Firefox as my browser.
Every time that I'd try to close the darn thing, it would pop right back up again.
I did the same as you and closed my browser and I haven't had it since doing that!!!!!

I am having a different problem...the searching of address clicking at the bottom of the page is going nuts...it goes to persky farms, etc and then tries to take me else where....like abc search or some dern thing. Maybe that is what you are talking about, but my pop-up blocker is blocking it????

The top of the page is telling me "pop up blocked" (which never happened on this site prior to Thursday). And the bottom of the page is going nuts, flashing about 10 internet addresses it is trying to access very fast, and I also recognized "abc..." as one of them.
I am running IE7, not Firefox. When it happened yesterday, I finished posting something for Beth, shut everything down, rebooted, then deleted temporary internet files. I didn't even look at what was there, usually at least once a week I will pick up a hitchhiker like "double click" or some advertising garbageware.

Being a solution-oriented guy, let me just say that I have used godaddy.com for hosting 2 web sites over several years, and they are rock-solid. They have an econo-hosting thing for $4 a month, and it worked great for me.
If you were to consider "jumping ship", let me just say that the domain MICROSCOPICCOLITIS.COM has already been taken by Dr. Fine, but ABOUTMICROSCOPICCOLITIS.COM is available, and you can register it for $8.99 a year. I always use godaddy.com to register names, they have local tech support, and excellent service. I would pay for the first year and registration, least I could do for all you have done for me.
You likely know this, but you can set an old URL to forward to a new one, so people can always find you. If this is of interest, you could do a poll for names, like MCSOLUTIONS.COM etc.
As I was in the middle of typing a sentence the cursor jumped up to the URL window, so it was like I was typing to go to another web site. This is strange...

I've forgotten most of the details about Godaddy.com, but if I remember correctly, they are a typical web-hosting service, where a board such as we have would never be possible. IOW, most of those hosting services allow only plain vanilla discussion boards, (there are over 75 "modifications" which added bells and whistles onto this one, and which would not be available to us, on most hosting services). On those sites, an admin has only very limited options available to maintain, modify, and troubleshoot the board. With the setup I have here, everything, (and I mean everything, as far as the software and database is concerned), is fully under the control of the admin. I can, (and do), modify the code in any way that I see fit, in order to enhance the way the board performs.
A lot of web-hosting services have a reputation for never upgrading the code, whenever a new version is issued, and BB owners, or their representative admins, are not allowed to upgrade the code, either. Since most upgrades are made for security purposes, I think that installing upgrades is a vital part of maintaining a board. If your board is hacked, you are usually on your own, because if they can't resolve it, (even if they are willing to make a decent effort), you will not be allowed access to the code, to try to troubleshoot it yourself. For $4 per month, there's no way they could afford to help you, if your board ever had serious, continuing problems.
I started with a blank database on a server, and built this site from scratch. I pay $57.01 per month for the privilege of being able to have full control of this board, and I would never consider moving it to a hosting service where I, (or the other admins here), wouldn't have full access to the code and the database. Even though this is a very small board, (by most discussion board standards), our database is huge, (relative to the size of the membership), mostly because of all the bells and whistles, and all those bells and whistles mean that we use a huge amount of bandwidth, which would either not be allowed on most web-hosting services, or I would have to pay through the nose in order to get the necessary bandwidth.
Bandwidth was always a problem on our old board, (and it was a very plain board), so I decided to rule out web-hosting services of that type, before I even started to create this board. Limited bandwidth sucks.
Also, FYI, I own the domain, microscopiccolitis.net, and yes, hits to it are redirected to this site.
While I truly appreciate your kind offer to pay for a year of service, the bottom line is, I'm a strong advocate of personal freedoms, and I think that if we're going to have a site like this, then we should be able to do anything we want to do, that's available within the realm of the current state of development of php code, (IOW, we should ber able to use all the bells and whistles, and all the bandwidth, we want). There's always a risk of course, because if the ship goes down, there's no one to blame but the guy at the helm. With most web-hosting services, if something goes seriously wrong, there are plenty of people to blame - the problem is, no one is willing to accept responsibility, because for $4 per month, you pay your money, and you take your chances on their management, and lady luck.
I could be totally wrong about godaddy.com, but for $4 per month, I really doubt that they could afford to allow full database access, and full access to the board operating files on their server. Web-hosting services of that type are designed for people who want to own a website, or a discussion board, but know virtually nothing about the actual mechanics of operating one, and/or just don't have the time or the inclination to fiddle with it.
Now it's time to try to figure out how we got hacked, because we're running the latest version of the php code, and hacks are pretty rare, on up-to-date versions. <sigh>

Well, I replaced the login file, which worked for a while, then during the night, our hacker friend put the redirect in the index file, now it's back in the login file.
I have a plan, but I can't discuss it on the board. Let's just say that I'm working on it.
