I can't believe what I did at JC Pennys!

Post by Umber »

Went to Pennys yesterday to get hubby new tennis shoes. Found Kylee the most adorable little sandals. Clerks every where but not a one will help. So I waited in line at the check out, figured I could ask that gal for help. Its finally my turn and the girl turns around and with out a word walks off. I am left standing there with my little shoe and I got

So, I walk into the back room and start looking for the shoes. BTW, they have tons of shoes in the back and its very confusing. This girl comes back, she is a little surprised & a lot freaked out. She tells me that I am not allowed back there. I tell her that I can't get anyone to help me so kindly point me in the direction of "these" shoes I will help myself.

Pretty soon most every clerk in the shoe department is in that back room and thier eyes are as big as silver dollars. I told them their customer service was terrible and had they helped me when they saw me standing at the register I wouldn't have to be back here doing their job!

The manager hears the rukus and he comes in, I completely shocked the heck out of him. I told him what had happend and this is horrible customer service, blah, blah, blah. He apologized profuselly, Kylee got her shoes and we had a very nice clerk at our assistance until we walked out the door.

Why is customer service not a big deal anymore?! I just don't get it!
Honestly, I really surprised myself.....I reacted without any hesitation! 5 years ago I would have NEVER done anything like that!

Thank goodness my 14 year old wasn't with us. I would have been the most embarassing parent that ever lived. Hehe!

Being in customer service, all I can say is there's a lot of untrained and clueless clerks out there. Makes you appreciate the good ones though!

Good for you, Lori

I bet you shook them up good. It will probably cause things to improve a bit and if not, maybe you could go back and give them another lesson.

I'm proud of you.

That's great! More people should do what you did!

Now tell the truth, to your 14 year old, you are the most embarassing parent already! I used to threaten to dress funny and go to school with them, it worked better than grounding.

Morning Lori,

Being in retail, I know what good customer service should and needs to be. It is an area that is thoroughly lacking in the U.S. and if we want to compete worldwide, we had better get it together. Here where I work - the 3rd largest garden center on the East coast - it is imperative that everyone exudes excellent customer service. I would love to have been there with you because I would have done the same thing.

See, Lori? Nobody blames you!!! LOL I have to say since I've gotten sick, I've learned to STAND UP more for my needs..

Customer Service is LAX especially in retail stores such as JC.. they hire a lot of 15 and 16 yr olds, and remember what YOU cared about back then??? it wasn't selling stuff LOL. Oh well, you made them take a HARD look at themselves and I'm sure they will have meetings about it and hopefully improve.

Lor,

You are a hoot! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see that act!
I find that one of the pluses of getting older is becoming more assertive. I just don't care as much anymore about what other people think. FREE at last!

Love,

Polly

Lori, you are my hero!

I have worked in various jobs in customer service and have always ENJOYED giving the people the best service I could. It is not hard. And it makes the whole transaction easier on everyone and makes everyone feel better. I am sorry to say, that doesn't happen much any more. When I run into to somebody that really has it together, I am surprised and I go back there again and again. Even if can find whatever it is cheaper somewhere else.

People are not taught to have pride in their work anymore.

Love and grumbles,

Sally

Yayyyyy....... GOOD FOR YOU!! I hope it affects ALL JC Pennys stores!! Customer service is no longer "The Customer is Always Right." That was always pounded into my head, wherever I worked. These days, it seems like The customer is a pain in the butt. Although, there are some nice clerks out there.
