Damn you Tex, one more thing to research. LOL ;)
Just a thought, but I would guess that the reason why paneth cells might develop in the colon would be that there is damage done to the small intestine. I remember reading about how when damage is done to some of the upper parts of the small intestine where food wasn't absorbed into the body that lower parts of the gi tract would adapt to make up for this malabsorption. So I'm guessin this is done through signaling to the genes of the cells that line the colon.
This has me thinking... so if this defense mechanism or other mechanisms move down the GI tract to the colon then it seems that the job of colon changes from water absorbtion to other things. So might this be what causes the diarrhea? Might this be why more inflammation occurs here? Might this be why some might react even to "good" bacteria?
Very interesting indeed Tex. Thanks!

Hahahahaha. Good questions, Mike. I agree - there aren't enough hours in the day already, so more research is tough to find the time for. It's enjoyable, though, isn't it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Mike, I don't have any idea whether the VSL3 is helping. I concurrently started bismuth, plus erratic light box therapy (probably not doing anything), and probably other stuff I can't even remember.
My comments about stomach acid were pure speculation and I don't really understand bile. I don't think I've had stomach acid tested. Until I started reading here, I assumed I just had too much.
On my elimination diet, I always ate rice and eggs and nuts, any of which I now know could have invalidated it. I had no idea anyone could be allergic to rice. It's quite possible that eating more of those items brought on the D, I suppose.
Polly, I wish you hadn't said that about pantoprozole/protonix, ugh. I just read yesterday that it might also be paxil causing all this. I guess one person on the big swedish study could stop and start D with paxil.
