What's new?
Hi everyone!!
How's about a summary from each of you to let me know how you are getting along, both with your treatments, and life in general. Wish I had the time to review all the posts. Wow, how I've missed you all!
My mother is now to the point that she can't keep her legs from buckling to offer any help with lifting her for transfers. As a result, we have brought in a Hoyer lift, and it is working well. Also, we've found a very nice young lady, a CNA, who comes in Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and parttime on Thursday and Friday around her hair appointments as she is a licensed hair dresser. She does people's hair who live in personal care homes, etc. Occasionally, she can be available for a few hours on a weekend. Only problem is that she is not very big, but for her size, is strong from all the practice (like me! Ha!).
Mother still knows who we are, so I feel fortunate for that. It is just sad to see her lose any ability to stand at all.
I've just done something that I've never done before -- got a big ole turkey breast (bone in) and stuck it into a crock pot with veggies and seasoning. I didn't realize that the thing weighed a little over four pounds, so had to do a bit of manipulating to get the lid on just right.
That meant leaving out a few veggies, but not many as I laid a few to the top on the sides, once the lid would close ok.
I'm trying to cook the thing on high in maybe 5 hours. Should've asked you all for suggestions before starting this, but my sis has been so feverishly working on this laptop at home where we are now, that I've not been able to check in lately. Will try to check the site later, so if ya don't mind, how about some suggestions for turkey breasts in crock pots.
Have a good week, and hope this finds all of you well.
Yours, Luce

Hi Luce, Oma Here. Glad things are a bit brighter. The turkey sounds great. I made Salmon Patties with corn, asparagus and Mac and cheese tonight.
I am fine . Still in a remission. I Goofed up today and ate some candy that was pure sugar. I hope I can flush it out of my system. But other than that, am working and just hanging on as the rest of us are doing. Glad to hear from you. Love Oma

Hi Luce!!
Good to see your post!! I've been wondering about how you have been doing. I see very busy!!!
About your turkey breast. Always put your veggies on the bottom of your crockpot whenever you are using turkey breast, chicken breasts or a beef roast. They take longer to cook. To make your turkey breast full of flavor, put some garlic cloves, thyme, etc., under the skin on the breast.
It's making my mouth water thinking about it...
Take Care!!
Love

Hi Lucy,
I've been wondering how you are doing, also your Mom. So glad to hear from you! It sounds like you are coping well under the circumstances.
It is a comfort that your mom still knows who you are, isn't it? My dad knew me until the end, and I was so grateful for that.
I'm doing well, just played a concert that was a big success. I'm not around here much either lately. but think of you.
Love,
Alice

LUCE!!!
How we have missed you too!!! So good to hear from you and to know that mom is doing as well as can be expected.
I am fine. My only news re MC/diet is that I think I now am egg-intolerant (like you). I have had some off and on D lately, which seems to be gone since I have eliminated eggs for the past week.
How did the turkey turn out? You might want to check out the recipe for Sticky Chicken in the recipe forum, as Shirley suggested above. I do a 4 pound chicken in about 6 hours on LOW (but I think I have a fairly hot crock pot).
Love,
Polly

HI Luce,
Great seeing you on the board and am so sorry that things are starting to slow down for your mom. It is remarkable how the rolls are reversing in this country with the young taking care of the older members of our families. Just like the Asian culture to some degree.
I have been plugging along and am trying the Paleo diet but with all of the teeth being pulled and mouth surgery, it is slow progress. Other than that, life has been dandy.
Will keep your mom in my prayers.
Love, Maggie

Hey Luce,
Great to *see* you.
I'm doing well. Am off the Entocort and cruising on 6 Asacol per day. Had a wonderful trip to Mexico just recently, with no d problems at all. (Of course, I didn't eat any of those wonderful refried beans!) Pics in the Memeber's photos forum under my name if you're interested.
All my best to you and your Mom.
Love

Hi Luce,
Thanks for the update, been thinking about you. Keeping you all in my prayers always.
I'm doing well in the MC department. It's hard to believe it's been almost 3 years to the date I was DX. It's been a journey that's for sure and diet alone has been doing the trick for a couple years now.
On a personal note, we are moving to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Alan is already there permenantly and currently in a bidding war on a home overlooking a lake on 5 acres about 10 miles out of town. I like the house, so I hope this goes through. Alanna and I are staying here until school is out and heading down then. Alans father, who is currently in a Veterans Home in Fergus will be moving in with us and for at least the next year Alan won't take a job outside the home and will be his primary caregiver. I'm totally at peace with this decision so thats helping during this transition. So, my family and I have alot on our plates and are just trying to take it a day at a time. Keep us in your prayers please.
Peg, I'm so glad to year your back on track with the Asacol!
Take Care Luce, thanks for popping in.
Love,
Joanna

Hi Lucy!!!! Wow, it's great to hear from you!
Glad to hear that things are continuing to be managable at your house. My prayers are with you and your family - wish there was more that we could do to help!
Things are moving right along here - no pun intended My youngest daughter got married February 6th to a Military man and they are now living at Fort Hood. In April, he will be transferred to Fort Campbell, 101st Airborne. It's hard having Bryce so far way! (my 6 YO grandson) I've posted wedding pictures in the pictures forum.
Healthwise - well, I keep on keeping on..............Right now I am bothered with an eye infection that has continued to get worse even though I am taking antibiotic drops. Had to return to the doc today and he changed the RX to an antibiotic drop including a steriod to reduce the inflamation in my right eye especially.
CC still doing the same - comes and goes - pun intended this time! I ate a veggie pizza today for lunch and have been in the since I ate it - just can't do those fresh veggies without cooking them. Plus, the cauliflower and broccoli just do NOT agree with me no matter how I eat them!
Hope you're around more - sure do miss you!
