Jean- So glad to hear from you. I was thinking about you just yesterday, wondering what you were up to. Good God, 6000 annuals!?! And I complain about my tiny condo backyard! Are you following the Pistons?

Good to hear from you. I too wondered where you were.
I don't know if you remember my back yard when you were here last year, but we've started a vegetable/herb garden and it's doing fairly well. I just harvested some lettuce and radishes for dinner.
Sounds like you've got a great job; one that suits you perfectly.
Sorry I didn't get back to you all. Some of my birds escaped and I spent a few days getting them all back. I'll post the story separately so that I don't bore you all.
Karen,
I have knee pads, so I don't squat much, but I'll keep it in mind. Remind me next winter why I have to stay in shape so that I can survive spring!
Momster,
The hydrangea can be planted or you could keep it somewhere that stays between 40-50 degrees in the winter, like a garage. You don't want the roots to freeze solid because it will kill them. I wonder about the butterfly bush. They haven't bloomed here yet so I'm not convinced that I know the plant you are talking about. The scientific name is buddleia. If that's what you have, you may get a second, fuller, bloom in August. Same applies for it, plant it or move it to the garage.
I'm jealous that you have so many things planted. I haven't even weeded my own garden yet! It looks like hell.
Luce,
Think of your trees as bonsai in progress. There is beauty in an old gnarled tree!
Sally,
The bleeding heart. They seem to be consistent bloomers. Is it new this year? Did something decide that the blossoms looked good and eat them? You know what you're doing, so I doubt it's anything cultural. I have seen them refuse to bloom well when we get an early heat spell. I'm assuming it's the old fashion kind that just blooms in the spring...
m,
Yes, I lost a lot of sleep watching the Pistons. I was so disappointed Thursday. Oh well, the Lion's look like they did well getting an offense in the off season. They just need to get rid of Herrington. How's the Michigan team looking? Should we bet again (I'm sure you'll win).
Hi Michigan Barb, I wasn't sure if you still lived here!
Hello Jean, glad to hear you so upbeat. My niece's mom bought an African Grey last year, so my niece has told me a few things about her that are pretty funny. They are supposed to be one of the smartest birds when it comes to learning. Which is safe to say with what you have told us, that must be so funny when your bird asks the dog if it wants to go out! Or making the sounds of things in the kitchen, too funny. I am afraid I am a lost cause when it comes to plants, they are much safer with me not around too. But I do love the way they look, I especially love a rock garden. Don't get me wrong I have done gardening, use to plant all my veggies and flowers, but it was my ex husband who knew what to do and I was just following instructions. Then I am allergic to allot of things too. If I just pull a few weeds I get hives in the areas that touch my skin, and itchy, itchy, itchy. Where I live now though, I don't have to do anything, the landlords put planters on my deck and just literally have flowers everywhere and shrubs and so forth, as well as the huge trees, so it looks great and I don't have do a thing.
It really does sound like you love your job though, so in that you are lucky. Isn't it nice to be back among friends?
