Buck, Jasmine, and the skunk
This morning we let the dogs out as usual.......Mike went out also. Buck started to Bark that bark that lets you know there's somrthing in his yard. Then Jasmine started. Mike Flung the door opened and there stood a young skunk waddling away from the area around the trailer.
We got Buck and Jazzy settled. The about 30 minutes later Buck decides he gonna raise heck again. I let him out and he alerted at the door like he did with the coyote under the trailer. He was hanging over the threshold of the door over the starir going nuts....I told mike , I bet that skunk is back and is under the trailer.....he says naw...it's probably a rat. So I go to town to buy food and incidentals. After I was all done I came home. Mike was helping me bring groceries in when he said....do you want to hear about the skunk??? I turned in horror thinking oh gosh, he under the trailer , we;ll have to move out, all sorts of things came to mind. It seems Buck and Jazzy were outside, Mike was inside doing the dishes (don't faint here) and he heard a ruckus. He went out and the small young skunk was at the fence facing Buck and Jazzy pawing at the ground like puppies play...Buck was playing with him wagging his tail and so was Jazzy. The skunk just kept playing til mike got a shovel and shooed him away. Mike herded him around the corner and shot him....as he was up in the day and we are very warey of critters that are night critters being up in the day. I hated the fact that he was destoyed but they are so pleantiful and they don't need to get comfortable playing with my dogs. But is was a rare moment when dog and skunk came together for a brief moment. Love Oma

Reminded me of the time when our children were small and we took them camping . We put up this screened in tent around the picnic table . My son was still in a high chair and after we had eaten and got the children settled in the camper for bed, I was sitting on a lounge chair with my feet propped up on a cooler. The next thing I knew, this skunk had made his way under the screened in tent and walked right under my propped up legs, brushing his tail along them.. That was the longest I have ever held my breath!!!! Slowly Jack got ahold of the side of the screening and the little bugar made his way out!!!
Quite an experience!!!!!!

My dogs have been skunked 3 times. Learned from a dog groomer:Herb_Lady wrote:oh yea, I keep tomato juice way out here in the country.
1.) Dawn brand dish soap cuts the stuff better than other brands
2.) Gold Bond Medicated Power after washing the dog.
We paid to have that done professionally, now we just keep it on hand. Always a joy... That's what you get for living out in the country.

Bob....how many can I bring? Ha Ha! I have a small 22 that I carry in my back pocket when I walk the dogs to the deer feeder every day. But If we really want to kill a critter ( A bad critter, not the good ones) we use the 9mm. Love Oma

Wish I could have seen the dogs & skunk playing. That has to be a once in a lifetime thing.
I certainly understand why you didn't want the event to keep happening though. It might have decided it wanted to live with you all.
I don't think I've ever seen a skunk in the daytime.
Love, Shirley

We saw a big old raccoon on the road last night at the bottom of our driveway. Also a sign of spring. He was behaving normally though...out rummaging in the dark. Every now and again we find him helping himself to sunflower seeds out of our bird feeder when we go out to let the cat in after dark.
Tigger got to spend all day yesterday outside too. Another sign that spring is coming. And the steep part of the driveway (which fortuately gets good afternoon sun) has mostly melted off. the top flat part is still several inches thick in ice. We had to salt it so no one breaks their neck...it had melted to a nice slick coating. Plus we got rain Saturday night that just froze as it hit the ice making it even slicker.
