Warning About Soy And Increased Risks Of Cancer

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Did anyone else notice any warnings recently, concerning the risks of a diet high in soy, on the development and treatment of certain types of cancer? This one was issued on January 14th, in NSW, (I assume that stands for New South Wales), in Australia. Apparently medical professionals are becoming increasingly aware of the adverse effects that soy can have on any cancer that is related to hormone issues, such as prostate cancer in men, and breast cancer in women, for example.

Not only does it appear to contribute to accelerated tumor growth, but it can seriously interfere with treatment. The same risk apparently applies to cancer survivors, as it makes them more vulnerable to a re-occurrence of the disease.

This is definitely not good news to soy fans. Note, however, that the warning applies only to hormone related forms of cancer. Colon cancer risk, for example, should not be affected.

Love,
Tex

I had to wonder when I heard on the news that girls are maturing at a faster rate than normal now... if the use of soy had anything to do with it. So many diets include soy and I know a lot of folks have switched to soy milk thinking it is healthier.

After reading an earlier study on the effect of soy on the maturation of parrots (think it was parrots) and how they used soy to mature the birds faster to get them to the adult phase where the feathers were prettier..I decided that soy was NOT for me... I sure don't need to get older faster..LOL

I try to avoid as much soy as I can. Never really fell for alot of the benefit findings on it.
Definitely food for thought!!!

I've read that stuff, too. Don't do soy (though there are trace amounts of soybean oil in many foods - I won't do soy milk or tofu) - I've also refused hormones (BC pills) as I just feel there isn't enough data about long-term effects. I hope this is enough to make a difference!! I'd love some clear-cut answers about what things we ingest that put us at risk for disease. Sometimes I think it's our air and water!

I avoid soy as much as possible. I don't think it was ever meant to be "food".
