I just noticed something!!!
That little blue penquin by my picture!!
My middle name is Adele!!!!!!
My Mother had this thing when choosing names for her 7 children. She would use actors and actresses, so I received my name after some French actress named Denise Darcel... Don't have a clue who she was and we siblings still laugh about our names and how they came to be!!
Just thought I'd share that!
Love

Dee,
I'll bet that naming influence is more common than you think. My first name was also my father's, but my middle name, (the one I go by), came from the fact that my mother was a John Wayne fan. LOL.

I always thought I was named after Shirley Temple. Kind of disappointing to find out that Shirley was the name of someone my Mom knew. I could have been Shirley Ann which would have been fine (my paternal grandmother was Annie) but Mom wasn't happy with her at that time so I ended up Shirley Nell after my Aunt Nell (short for Nealie). I've often wondered why Mom didn't name me Shirley May after her own Mother. That would have been OK.
I've always hated my middle name and even today use my maiden name initial in place of it - except for drivers license - They insist on the entire name - maiden and middle.
There were at least 3 Shirley's in my school from grade 1 through 12. They called me Shirley Nell all the way through. Lord, how I hated that!!
The name seems to have fallen from favor quickly though since I've never met a Shirley that wasn't close to my age.
It's really interesting how we got our names.
Love, Shirley

Ha HA! My family needed to get more creative like all of yours! I was named after my grandmothers...Katherine Elaine. Elaine is a bit weird and my mother really wasn't happy with it, but like Katherine and couldn't name me after grandma K without naming me after her mother too. I don't mind it so much, especially as I've gotten older, so I think I'm dropping my maiden name after I get married and keeping my original middle name.
Why I say they needed to be more creative is because there are 6 Katherine's in my family (2 are Catherine) and only 1 married into the family! My youngest cousin got the shortest stick on grandparent names...she is Katherine Cornelia. She goes by K.C. and her grandma Cornelia goes by Connie!

Just catching up on some old posts. I'm in the camp who hates my name--don't have any clue what old book they drug Wendy from. I always thought that if I could be movie star or something I'd change it to something more glamorous. Somehow I think that's not going to happen!
We did name all of our kids after family in some way. Rebecca Ann's middle name is both grandmother's middle name and my grandmother's middle name. William Alexander is for his father (Bill), and turns out my great grandfather was Alex, though we didn't know that at the time we named him. Nicholas Joseph just came to us one day and it stuck...Joseph is my FIL's middle name. Sure beats my father's name of Raymond Marshall.
Just fun info to find out and share!
Cheers,
Wendy
