Well, I don't know for sure, but my mil-to-be had the phospho whatever stuff. She had trouble getting cleaned out, but according to docs, diabetics (like her) have a harder time getting cleaned out. When they did her colon cancer surgery they had her in the hospital the day before for much more agressive cleaning.

When I did my sigmoid...back when MC was diagnosed in 2001, I drank an 8 oz (I think) bottle of magnesium citrate, and took 3 dulcolax. I would check with your GI and ask if there are options. And if what you did last time worked, I would think it would work again.

Barbara-

I had to do the Fleets phospho soda - 2 doses - I mixed it w/apple juice - but it still tasted nasty! Mike had to do it a few months later - he did straight shots of the stuff - he figured minimize the volume you need to drink since it will taste awful anyways - I may try that next time! Drinking a gallon of stuff is truly "cruel and unusual punishment," IMO!

I like Peg's suggestion the best

I had to drink the fleets phospho soda and it makes me deathly sick.
I was throwing up and poopin at the same time, so when I need to have another colonoscopy, I'm gonna ask for the osmo prep, I think it's called. That's where you have to take alot of pills.
Just question all of your options when you set up your appt.....

Cheers!! Peg!! I'll have a vodka tonic with a double lime!!!!!

Love

Ugh. I'm sorry you have to go through this! I just had mine in January. I had to drink the gallon of stuff. I think I mixed it with ginger ale. It was nasty, nasty, nasty, and I was still in the bathroom at 8:30 the next morning. I guess it did a good job, though, because they didn't complain when the did the scope.

Good luck to you, Barbara--I don't envy you.

I have done both the little bottle and the 1 gallon. I didn't think the gallon was much worse than the little bottle. Maybe I'm wierd.

Hi Barbara,

The only thing I have heard about the pills is that it is hard on the kidneys so should have no kidney issues if you go that route. Good luck....I drank all the liquid....actually I could only drink half and by that time everything was exiting clear so I stopped. No one complained!!

The gallon of Go-Lightly - which makes you go rapidly - is absolutely horrible. That is the only thing my doc will use. Ergo, why I am putting off getting another scope.

2 people I know who just had theirs done both had to do the gallon. Must pe a Pennsylvania thing.

Hi Mrs. Columbo,

It's been 5 or 6 years since I had my series of tests. I think they started me with the phospho, but it made me sick, so the next time I used something else, (which I don't recall the details on, right now). It made me sick, too, so to cut to the chase, for the last exam, (a colonoscopy), they told me that the "best" one to use, (which wouldn't make me sick), was the gallon of Go-Litely.

Since I was as gullible as Charlie Brown, back in those days, (I actually thought the people wearing the white coats could be trusted. LOL), I fell for that line, and I got about half of it down, before getting so nauseated that I had to quit, because if you vomit it up, it won't do any good, and you'll probably have to start over. It worked okay, anyway, because I hadn't been eating anything but chicken broth, jello, Seven-Up, and water, for a couple of weeks, since the last exam, (thinking that I wouldn't have to go through the clean-out procedure again, if I didn't anything but clear liquids). Silly me, they insisted that I do it anyway. Hahahahaha.

HI Wayne,

You know the whole bunch of us used to be very gullible and accepted what the white coats said. But luckily, most of us have taken things in our own hands and question when we need to.

Congrats to all of us for acknowledging our health and our treatment.

Love, Maggie
