Hi Polly. I read your comment about pediatricians dosing by weight. I've always wondered when giving the kids OTC meds like tylenol or cough syrup. We have a very over weight 9 year old and the OTC meds are by age. I always wonder if the dose will be enough to help her. So far so good, but to be honest I'm worried about the onset of puberty and cramps! The poor girl is very sensitive to pain and I'm envisioning a lot of crying and complaining. We are trying really hard to get her moving (her laid back attitude while good in some ways is a detriment to her health) but it;s hard especially having no control of her diet/activity level when she is with her mom. Geoff's youngest is much more "normal" sized for her age (although I wish she would stop growing so fast...we can't keep up with enough clothes shopping!).

From personal experience I would say not to exceed the recommended dosage. Since I am quite a heavy person I thought 3 naproxin tablets would be a more appropriate amount than the recommended dosage of 2. It may have helped with the arthritis pain, but it sure did my colon no good. That's when I developed the MC! Not a good trade-off!

I have to add to this also---which is in reference to my Entocort Xperience-
Now my GI---knows every size--shape of me---BUT--when I was having a flare up(back when Entocort came on the scene) he wanted to put me back on PRED. and I said NO---I want to try Entocort---and I had a bad reaction to it---1-3X's a day---the usual dosage!! and inside of 2 days(using the usual dosage) I developed a neurological problem!!
NOW, when I told this to my GP he was really quite upset with this issue--cus my GP said to me---*U start a patient off with 1 tablet to see how they adjust*--not the full dosage!!!
Every meds. affects the body differently---One can take the usual dosage and yet a person like me---CANNOT!!!
Yes---we all must be careful in --as U said Hazel/Kathy--the TRADE OFF-

Hi Katy!
Yikes! Puberty is looming............hah!
She probably could take a larger dose of an OTC drug - they tend to underdose in their instructions. And there is usually a very large window between the therapeutic and toxic doses of OTCs. Of course, it's best to check with her ped. The ped. can also recommend something for the relief of cramps, if/when the need arises.
Love,
Polly
P.S. How are the wedding plans coming along? Only 3 months to go!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
