Hi folks,

Sorry if I have been lax in posting updates.....especially in light of the fact that I had all your support during his hospital stay. The fact is, I must have been running on pure adrenaline because once he was home I really crashed. I could still sleep all day and night. I have to get my motor started again somehow.

Harry is still very weak even though he is walking up and down the stairs and through the house and has a good appetiite. He lost 15 pounds in those three weeks. A nurse has been coming to the house to draw blood and we got a call from the doctor today while napping saying to discontinue the Coumadin until they speak on Monday. Must be something out of whack there. They had one heck of a time getting it to the correct level before he ever came home.

I got my cast removed Wed. and I almost wish I had it back on. My wrist hurts more with this removable brace and even more without it. I have to wear it two weeks then go back to work following the last day. That seems an impossibility at this time. Time will tell, I guess.

Well, it sounds like things are going about as would be expected--some good, some not so good. The best is that Harry is up and about and eating.

Sorry your wrist is painful. Give it a few days, it may just be terribly stiff from being immobilized.

Congratulations on being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Oh no, that's the headlight of the back-to-work train! Aaaack!

Hang in there. Everything will continue to get better!

Sounds like a normal response to the stress you've been under. Geoff slept for at least a week after his mom was so sick in the fall and he wasn't caring directly for her when she went home. Sleep away and get the rest you deserve.

So glad to hear Harry is up walking and eating. Both those activities will help him regain his strength.

Sometimes it's ALMOST easy to keep on going when your under so much pressure but, WOW, the crash and burn is horrible. I hope you can start recovering soon.

I know Harry is still pretty wiped out too, so I'm hoping you two are just napping and resting together except when necessity dictates otherwise.

Hi Carol,

I'm so glad that Harry is back home with you adn that he can get around a bit. The more he moves, the stronger he'll get, even if it's just walking around the house. My father is on coumaden as well and they have one heck of a time regulating it after he's had some kind of episode (like his heart cath last week). It can be a very frustrating time.

As for your wrist--make sure you keep that brace on when you're awake. The bone is still weak and needs the support of the brace. Is there anything you can take for the pain? Did they give you any exercises to do for it? Unfortunately it's normal to have the pain you have now, but you still have to baby it some.

Good luck and just take things day to day--don't worry for now about going back to work. Concentrate on both of you getting stronger!

Hi Carol,

Healing requires rest, with occasional exercise, and it always seems to take forever, but it's a process we all have to go through, now and then. At least you are both definitely on the road to recovery, now, and that's the main thing.

That wrist will probably continue to hurt for a while, but just take it easy on it, and it will eventually be good as new. I went through the same thing a couple of years ago, (except that it was the distal end of my forearm that was broken, just ahead of the wrist), and I found that the removable wrist support helped a lot, but because of the pain, I didn't use that arm any more than I had to. It bothered me for about a year, (though I didn't wear the wrist support but a few weeks), but one day I woke up and realized . . . Hey! the pain was gone, and I had a full range of motion in that wrist, again. It just takes time.

I hope you both continue to heal without any setbacks.

I am glad that you are both home. Healing requires rest, Carol. Take your time now. It is not going to be easy, I know, because you would like to be as active as you were much before. I am sorry that your wrist still hurts, but do not forget to exercise it.

Sleeping is a good way to recover.

Hi Carol,

I'm glad that Harry is getting better!!

I hope your wrist feels better each day.

I fell and hit the bone under my eye (zygomatic), a month ago, and I have had a large bump the size of a golf ball there (purple). I bruised the bone, and it is still healing. I looked like someone beat me up for the first two weeks. I was told the healing of this could take months.


I hope you both feel better very soon, I know it can feel like such a long time.
