Mercury Toxicity?
Hi,
I've read some info. linking dental fillings and root canals to a host of health problems including adrenal fatigue, colitis, multiple sclerosis, etc. Anyone have any experience with this? I found a "biological dentist" in my area and am going to call his office to see if they offer mercury detox. It sounds like quackery, but Sweden is banning the use of mercury in dental offices because toxic levels have been found in sewage (ie. feces) and corpses. I know my microscopic colitis flared shortly after a root canal and, ever since, I've had gum issues.
thanks for any insight anyone can share,
Magyar

Celiac (gluten-free since 2000), Lymphocytic colitis since 2000.
Here's a topic where we discussed that almost two years ago:

I thought there was another thread somewhere, but I can't find it, if it exists.
I think there's some substance in this, but the problem is that it seems to be almost impossible to remove those old fillings, without dispersing some of the mercury, and doing more harm than good.
Also, serious dental work is often accompanied by the use of antibiotics, which can trigger MC episodes.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I still have old mercury fillings (I'm 51 years old) and haven't messed with this, because everyone seems to have different input.
I met a person who swore that her CFS cleared up after all the mercury pulled, then it came back later. Some people say it helps. At the same time, others will respond how they got full upper and lower dentures with no change to their CFS.
I think it's a great idea (I can't afford it) but I wouldn't put it first in line in terms of the reason for CFS, colitis, etc. Dr. Teitelbaum specializes in fatigue, and to some extent adrenals. I didn't remember him mentioning mercury at all in his book. I just checked the index for mercury, dental, fillings, there is no mention.

You're right I don't remember Dr. Teitelbaum mentioning anything about amalgams specifically, but he does talk about glutathione depletion and he also talks about mercury/heavy metal issues. Heavy metals would definitly cause glutathione depletion, especially if it was a continuous source. The sources where he does mention mercury are water, vacines, fish oil, and fish. He also says in other places that glutathione depletion can be found in CFS folks.bobh wrote:I still have old mercury fillings (I'm 51 years old) and haven't messed with this, because everyone seems to have different input.
