Finally have path results!

Post by CAMary »

I guess because of the disagreement, they had to send it to an outside lab for some sophisticated immunohisto(?) staining, hence the delay. I am still getting the second path opinion for peace of mind!

Anyways, the additional testing showed what they found was more of what was found on the intial biopsy, which is good, in that I do not have a "science fair project" of all kinds of cellular atypia going on - just more of what was originally found. Bad news is *this* type is the kind that needs to be removed - because 2 of the margins are smaller (they want a margin of 10 mm of clear tissue around the area...) than they like, I go back in for re-excision on Wed. Surgeon says this is not uncommon (which I have also read) and is confident this will be "it". He says he will go in through the same incision (so I guess I won't be "frankenboob" )

So I press on - at least now we are out of the "holding pattern"

It sounds better, Mary. I hope they can just get it out and that will be all. I had a non- C tumor in my right breast in 1980 and you can`t even see the incision site any longer. Please keep some ice packs in your fridge. They help an awful lot with swelling and pain. Good luck and praying for great results. Love, Carol

Mary,

Continuing to think about you. Good luck on Wednesday. I'm so glad to hear the medical community being cautious and taking the time to get the right diagnosis. We see/hear about too many times when patients suffer because of misdiagnosis, or us MC folks, no diagnosis.

Sounds like you are handling this very well.

Hi CAMAry,

Just wanted to let you know that I have been following your progress regularly. It sounds as if you are getting excellent care. It is good to have an agressive doc in this case, IMHO, so I'm glad you will be having the additional surgery. And it sounds as if you are totally "on top" of everything and being assertive. You GO, girl!

Wasn't the atypia found as a result of your first routine mammogram? If so, I am thinking that maybe 40 is too late to recommend the first mammo. Do you have any family history?

Anyway, good luck this week and HOORAY - soon you can relax again!

Love,

Polly

MOrning Mary,

Glad to hear that you finally have a diagnosis and that the doctors are aggressively to take care of it. Will be praying for you and that everything goes fine on Wednesday.
