another scan today

Post by Liz »

Hi All

I spent nearly seven hours at the hospital in Brisbane on Monday having scans & stress test done & have to have a scan of my carotid arteries this afternoon. Aparently the front ones are blocked & they want to have a look at the back ones. Won't get any results until next Tuesday when I see the cardiologist again. Been getting chest pain again mostly when riding my trike. I have a terrible family history so my doc packed me straight off to see the specialist. Cholesterol is going up instead of down so he has changed my medication. He said it was genetic & that I should warn my family to have regular checks. I had an angiogram about 5-6 years ago & it showed a couple on monor blockages so I hope they have not gotten any worse.

love

Hi Liz,

I sure hope the back ones are working well, and I hope the scans tell the specialist whatever he or she needs to know.

I apparently have a genetic cholesterol problem also, but so far, it hasn't gotten out of hand.

Love,
Tex

Hi Liz, wishing you all the best. I hope the doctors can find an easy way to correct your problems. I will be praying that that is true. Take care of yourself and don`t get too stressed if you can help it. Love, Carol

Liz, hope things are proven well. Heart problems are nothing to take lightly and do exactly what the doc says. I too have hereditary high cholesterol - just discovered last year when my cardio problems arose.

Love, Maggie

Good luck with the tests, Liz. It's good that you are having everything re-evaluated. Keeping everything crossed for good results............ :xfingers:

Hello again,

It was a long day. We had to leave home at about 6.30am because of it being peak hour & the heavy traffic on the highway. Arrived at about 7.50am. They insert a canula into your arm for the series of injections first. Image

I thought it strange, seeing you were not permitted to eat or drink anything for at least 4 hours beforehand, that after the first injection you had to drink a litre of water. You then had to lie face down for a scan taking 20 minjutes. After about 5 minutes they decided that I needed to drink another litre more of water. So back on my belly again for the scan after about another half an hour. Later, after an ECG they connect you up to all these electrodes while you are on the treadmill. The doctor injected 2 more drugs into the canula to increase your heartrate while walking. They then give you more drugs to counteract the ones you had before. By then it was after 1pm. Robert came back to pick me up & was told I would be another 1 1/2 hours at least. Finally had a cup of tea & sandwich & after that another 20 minute scan.

Came out to the reception desk to be told that Robert had called to say he had broken down & had a 45 minute wait for the RACQ truck. Turned out it was only a flat battery & the truck was there a lot faster than expected.

Scan or carotid arteries yesterday only took about half an hour & will get all my results when I see the cardiologist again on Tuesday.

Love to all

Liz
