Question for the ladies who are/have been on entocort
Hey there ladies,
Just wondered if any of you have experienced yeast infections while on entocort? I came down with one a few weeks ago and treated it with Monistat, 3 day version. Didn't clear up, so I'm about to try another course, only this time use the 7-day version to see if longer and slower will do the trick. I read last night that immunosuppressants can contribute to yeast infections, so I'm not surprised. But any other thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Beth

Hi Beth!
I've been on Entocort for a long time now and haven't experienced any problems with yeast infections.
You haven't been on any antibiotics recently, have you?? Now, those will cause me that problem every time, so my PCP knows to prescribe me something to have on hand.
I also have been taking a probiotic for at last 2 years so that may be helping..

Beth,
I do not, nor have I taken Entocort but yeast infections are best treated with the one time dose prescribed by the doctor. Have had problems in the past due to antibiotics and always ask for it then. The OTC doses don't seem to help me.

Mars

Hiya Beth-----as has been said---we all re-act so differently to meds and I for one--concerning Entocort--didnt fare well--
I was only on them for 2 dayz and by then I started to Xperience slurring of speech---and needed to hold on to the wall as I attempted to walk--
It was very scarey--and as usual this happened to me over a weekend when my GI wasnt on---but I did get his take-over--Xplained the issues and he told me STOP IMMEDIATELY!! I was having neurological problems!!!
The next day my GI called to ask how I was(which was fine) cus if I didnt feel any better he would have me come in---
I was so disappointed cus I thought this be the magic pill--instead of the Pred.
But for me----NOT for me
I was having a little flare so I waited it *OUT*

Hey everyone,
Thanks for all of your responses. Nope, haven't been on antibiotics, but those definitely give me problems, too, so I always ask the doctor for something when I have to be on them. Can't eat yogurt b/c of problems with dairy. That's alright - the Monistat 7 should help, and if it doesn't, I'll go see my doctor next week.
Best,
Beth

Same for me ,Beth....was on for 4 months but no yeast infections. I only had problems with light sensitivity and dry eyes.
Just FYI... My Dr. Fine results showed an intolerance to yeast and when I had my consult with Dr galland he said that problems with yeast is one of the conditions they find that cause or is a side effect of colitis.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Love,
Cristi

Beth-
I've never been on entocort, but I've been through phases where yeast infections have been a problem (I always get them from antibiotics). I find the OTC stuff is a mess, and takes too long to give relief. I am a big fan of the one-dose diflucan pill. In fact, @ my last annual, my doc gave me an Rx for 4 - he said if I need more than that in a year, we need to talk! But some women have a Ph more easily thrown out-of-whack...It has been 10 mos, and I've only used 1, when I had to take antibiotics for a UTI...
It's pretty miserable - feel better soon!
Love,
Mary

Beth, for what it is worth, one of the adrenal-thyroid forum guru's has stated that those with low Free T3 (or suffer from T3 not getting into the cells due to low cortisol) are prone to Candida, and it can go systemic (the whole body).
The opposite is also true, once the T3 can enter the cells and help generate normal metabolism, the natural immunity will fight off Candida.
I realize your issue may be a more specific target area that is currently manifesting, but thought I would mention it. Sounds like the other's comments on the "one time dose" will get you through the crisis, but for long term - the metabolism issues may help you.
the thyroid pioneer Dr Broda Barnes took 4 grains Armour's for 30 years, he was hypothyroid, and he strongly felt that proper thyroid levels are key to immunity. The healthy immune system should keep unfriendly flora in check...
