Since I can't handle driving into Houston I was beginning to think I would have to try to score the stuff on a street corner..LOL
This morning my family doctor finally agreed to prescribe it. He had refused before because he knew nothing about it. I have been on it for two years now. He asked me how it was working and I said it gave me my life back! And I don't give a hoot what the long term effects might be because without it I almost croaked several times anyway...
He wants me to make sure to see the GI doc downtown or another one closer if I can find one I like... at least once a year...

Yes, they certainly are. Glad you found a closer sourse, grannyh.
My GP wrote me a Rx for another year of Asacol but he insists that I see a Gastro Dr. here because he said he had no idea what to do for me if I had a flare. At least he admits it. LOL
I told him I am due for a scope in 2009 (LOL) but he thought I should see one sooner just to get established as a patient. (for you newer members, I was diagnosed in Pa. I am now in Fl.)
Guess I'm going to have to bit the bullet and do it since the GP has been very nice about writing Rx for me (more than just the Asacol).
Love, Shirley

Guess I'm pretty lucky, too, in that for the most part when I tell a doctor what I need they give it. Ignorance is not always bliss, but in this case it works for me LOL.
Plus I consider myself very lucky in that my prescription plan covers all but $2 of the medication...whether it is Asacol or Entocort or Tylenol.
I still don't have a regular doctor since mine had to move back east with her husband's work. Finding a new doctor is like trying to find a cure for colitis...impossible right now! I was so happy with the one new doc I got to see that had colitis in his family, then he relocated after only two visits
Hope you don't have to hit those street corners Granny...ever!
Hugs, Peg

It took two years for the family doctor to agree to prescribe the entocort.. now he knows it works:) He was the only one who did NOT tell me I was nuts before I finally got my diagnosis. However, he prefers to have patients with health problems to see specialists for whatever the illness may be.
I have not had a flare since being on entocort.
Finding a gastro doctor closer to home will be another horrible ordeal... sigh..
