Saw cardiologist yesterday & the good part is that the blockages in my main arteries have not gotten much worse. The bad part is that my right carotid artery is 70% blocked but thankfully the left one is only 22% blocked. I have to see him again in 3 months time & he has changed one of my medications (zocor to crestor) and added Vascardol to the list of meds. I see my GP tomorrow & have to see a vascular specialist as well.

I'm sorry to hear that the blockage is that much, Liz. At what point do they operate to clean out the artery? My Did had that done quite a few years before he died. (not from heat or cartoid blockage by the way)
Anyway, he did really well.
I'm glad the other arteries were good. That's sure something to be thankful for.

It's good that you are staying on top of this - cardiovascular medicine has such good outcomes. Best of luck with the new medications and the specialist. A family member recently had carotid artery surgery and did beautifully!

Don't know if I will be having surgery yet, have to wait until I see the Vascular person I suppose. My younger brother had both of his done a while back & he is still on deck.
I have not been feeling that well lately, just tired & a bit breathless & have not ridden my trike for nearly a week but the Cardiologist told me to do as much as I can, that it would be good for me so off I went this morning & did about 5 ks. Not up to the usual 7-9 ks but at least something. The asthma has been a factor too in making me slow down. It has been blowing a gale for the last few days & probably blowing all the wattle pollen around. Will see what my GP says tomorrow.

I used to have asthma attacks, so I can certainly understand how tiring it can be. It has been many years since I "outgrew" it, but I can still remember how tired I would be, the day after an attack. It seemed like I was always short of breath, too - even when I wasn't having an asthma attack.
With asthma, in addition to circulation problems, it's no wonder you're tired and short of breath.
It sounds like you're getting good medical attention. The results of a trial with Crestor were recently announced, (March, 25, 2007), which showed excellent reduction in the progress of atherosclerosis in carotid arteries, and in fact, there was even evidence of a significant reduction in the amount of pre-existing plaque formation. Your cardiologist is obviously staying up with current technology, and I would assume that this report is a primary reason why he decided to switch your meds.

I hope that they can resolve the issue in a safe and effective manner, that doesn't cause you any significant discomfort.
