That was my first question to him - would insurance pay, since I know it is a couple of thousand? He said they would review the request/reasoning - it is a simple blood test, and he said there is a box to check on the form that says to complete the testing ONLY if insurance has approved it - in other words they would destroy the sample if denied and I am not interested in paying out of pocket....
He says insurance companies have taken that tack to prevent being overwhelmed by requests from women "just wondering" if they are at risk...It is sort of a different case if I have *already* been diagnosed, as the information would be beneficial in helping me make decisions about pre-emptive/prophylactic treatments, and ultimately would minimize their costs, since these prophylactic options are less costly than cancer treatment...
