wow
Joanna,
That's crazy!!! LOL I'd imagine most of us couldn't even think of a day like that!!! I know I wouldn't be able to sleep!!! Much less garden!
That's just insanity LOL. I think that's one thing I'm not sure I could live with in Alaska...

Oh Joanna!
That's really something! I wonder if anyone has ever done a study to see if Alaskans are sleep-deprived compared to the rest of the country. You MUST be. I saw a study that showed that, every April when we set the clock ahead for daylight savings time and lose just one hour, there are statistically more traffic accidents the next day - due to fatigue, they think.
Can you catnap anytime during the day (or powernap as Roni calls it)?
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
WOW!!! How in the world do your biological clocks ever adjust to that??
I think the long darkness would bother my the most. I get almost homicidal during the winter and I am only in Oregon.
It takes TOUGH people to live in Alaska!!!
Lots of love,
Sally

yeah
Well, and what about KIDS!!!
When mine were younger, we'd have a HECKUVA time with daylight savings. Even the HOUR difference in daylight at bedtime caused my kids to think they could just stay up later! I used to have to put a blanket over their window to seal out the light. Now of course they just pass out.. but they're older now..

Good Morning (my morning, afternoon for most of you)
Partied last night to celebrate summer solstice and went to sleep too late. Slept in later than ususal this morning. Alot of Alaskans stay up and party all night during solstice-- I did it the first year I was here but I'm just to old for that now- LOL
I saw a segment of the Today show televised from Fairbanks this morning which is 500 miles or so north of here. They have 22 hours of daylight now- it is pretty crazy.
I don't know if I will ever get used to the light/dark thing here. People (including myself) just GO GO GO like maniacs in the summer and make up for their lack of sleep in the winter when it's dark by relaxing and resting more. Of coarse, that does not replace sleep but seems to recharge my batteries. I DONT like the dark of the winter months and when I was so sick with MC before my DX my GP put me on antidepressants for about 5 months- they seemed to help.
Kids are another story! It IS hard to get Alanna to bed at night during the summer but since she has no school she just sleeps in later and by the time school starts up again the light/dark will be more balanced and she will be back on a better schedule. She was born here so she really knows it no other way. She's in Christines neck of the woods now (Yeah, Minnesota!) and commented to me yesterday about it getting dark so early there. LOL Funny, children just adjust easier than us old folks.
Hope you all are having a good day. Happy SOLSTICE!
Love,
Joanna

I know Christine, I thought that was a funny comment she made.
Last night, at 10:30pm she Alan were down still down at the river catching sunnies up the ying yang. This was a first for her fishing with cane poles and she had a blast! I guess, they have been fishing every night so I'll have some fresh sunfish and bass in my freezer come this weekend.
I use to LOVE fried sunnies dipped in egg and coated with flour. SIGH, can't do that anymore.
Love,
Joanna

Yeah, that sucks.. but what you CAN do is dip the fish in something else that's kinda sticky and wet, then roll it in potato flakes and fry it. Add some spices to the potato flakes before hand and it tastes NUMMY :)
