Hi Sis,

Blood loss from the intestinal tract is a common cause of anemia as we get older. Of course, colonoscopy would only pick up a problem in the colon - not, for example, from ulcers in the stomach or small intestine.

Do you have a microcytic, hypochromic anemia? I'm assuming you do, because this is the kind that needs iron. But this is also the kind that can result from slow, unnoticeable blood loss. If you wish, you could ask the doc for a stool test for blood. It's easy - you smear a little stool on a piece of cardboard with a popsicle stick on several occasions and take it back for analysis. There's a kit to do this.

Did they find any polyps or other problems on your last colonoscopy? If so, it should be repeated in 3-5 years.Don't blame you for avoiding it - it is not the most fun acitivity. LOL!

Love,

Sispolly
