avocado chopped down.
Had a sad day on Thursday. Chopped the avocado down. Well we didn’t chop it down ourselves, much too big for us to do that. We had people come in to do it for us. They had this muncher thingy that just slurped up the huge branches. A bit frightening really. Hate to get caught in it. You would be mincemeat in seconds.
It had been there for after 29 years. Shaded the western side of the house pretty well too but we are putting in another water tank & it had to go. We are on level 5 water restrictions now with level 6 or even level 7 & looming if we don’t get any rain soon. Looks pretty bare out there now & my little rain forrest has gone. Rebuilding it under the mango tree. The 5.000 litre tank is on order, takes about 2 months because the demand is so great now. Going to pipe it into the house so that I can still have my bath.

Have to look at the messy yard next door now. The tank will shut some of it out & I am planting other stuff too.

Oh Liz,
I am grieving with you. Did you get to eat many avocados over the years? I love 'em. What a lovely tree it was. I know how sad you must be. But I understand. I have been reading about the awful drought you have been having, and I know that it shows no signs of abating. I saw a photo of a dead kangaroo recently - it had died from the intense heat. I remember 3-4 years ago telling you on Sally's board that I would wave my magic wand and do a rain dance for you, so I know this has been going on for a long time.
Good luck with your vascular appt. on Thurs. I'll be thinking of you.
Love,
Polly

Liz----how sad to view those pictures---how beautiful a tree--
I know what U mean about those mulching machines that suck up the twigs and gone--
Right now our neighbor is having that done---and I hear and see those limbs sucked in and gone--
Well sadly U had to do what needed to be done--being U guys are on Water restrictions---
Also I will keep in touch with U as to your medical issues too--
Things have to pick up----

It was a beautiful tree, a great kids tree too. Had email from Nikki yesterdy, she is living & working in London now. The first thing she said was how she & Robbie had such great times climbing it as kids. Had big low branches for them to sit on. My new area is coming along Ok. Watering is a bit of a problem though. Have to cart it in buckets until I get my new tank. Everything is soooo dry, sometimes the water just runs straight off. We are allowed to water with a bucket during the hours of 4pm to 7pm 3 days per week. We have put heaps of mushroom compost around & that should help.
I had two large crows nest ferns under the avo & they seem to have taken the transplant well. They are sitting nicely under the mango tree with some other ferns & stuff that I managed to salvage. All of my orchids are now tied to trees & will have to largely fend for themselves. I give them a bit of a spray with a small spray bottle every now & then to keep them a bit moist.
